Finance Manager - Job Description

Job Purpose:
Ensure the smooth financial operation of the business and to work closely as part of a
management team that provides support and assistance for all women who stay at the refuge
Main duties:
1.
Complete all accounting functions on Sage, this includes all payments made to suppliers against appropriate
invoices, dealing with petty cash and banking, dealing with various designated funds. Providing information to
Trustees upon request (including monthly list of donations), keeping a list of Gift Aid donations for reclaiming tax,
details of sustainability grant, nursery education funding and other funding streams.

Ensure compliance with Centre's financial policy
3.
Calculate and pay month salaries on time for all employees, ensure all appropriate payments connected with salaries
are made on time, i.e. PAYE, AEO, Pensions, RTI.
4.
Collate relevant management information to support staff supervision (for example - patterns of sickness/absence).
5.
Quality assurance of staff contract arrangements.
6.
Update MPRO and ACCESS accounts systems weekly and ensure that service charges and housing
benefit payments are allocated to both correctly.
7.
Ensure all residents rent payments are up to date and accounted for.
8.
Liaise with Housing Benefit Team, ensure housing benefit forms are submitted and are quality assured
regarding over and under payments.
9.
To assist residents with their queries on benefits, especially housing related and advise on such other
financial problems they may have where possible.
10.
To deputise at meetings connected with Landlords, Community Support Network, D.V. Forums and
Supporting People funding issues as directed by the C.E.O. and Centre Manager.
11.
Keep a list of children under/over five for Supporting People and for accounting purposes in terms of
nursery education funding.
12.
Collation and submission of all Supporting People paperwork linked to funding (ensuring all monies are
received correctly and accounted for). This includes: quarterly monitoring paperwork, quarterly analysis of
complaints received, monthly client record forms, monthly outcome forms, refuge statistics.
13.
Attend all training sessions where required.
14.
Attend staff and management meetings as required..
15.
Complete DBS checks when required.
16.
To carry out any other duties that may be required and are appropriate to the post.

Qualifications

Qualified in the use of SAGE Accounts & Salaries
Experience
Experience of assisting women in applying for benefits.
Minimum 3 years accounts experience
Abilities/Skills/
Knowledge
Knowledge and awareness of domestic violence issues.
Demonstrable understanding of the diverse needs of women
and children experiencing domestic violence and the
discrimination issues as they relate to women escaping
domestic violence.
Understanding of issues of diversity and the principles of
equal opportunities.
Evidence of up to date knowledge of housing, criminal, civil
and welfare rights legislation relating to domestic violence.
The ability to develop appropriate, professional, supportive
relationships with abused women and their children,
maintaining professional boundaries with residents, staff etc.
Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrable ability to work effectively within a team setting
and within a line management structure.
Ability to work flexibily and positively within a demanding
environment.
Evidence of the ability to work tactfully and diplomatically in
establishing good working relationships with housing
departments and other agencies.
General
A commitment to follow the policies, procedures and
philosophical principles of the centre and be committed to
empowerment, support and equality which underpin all the
work undertaken by the Birmingham Crisis Centre.
Candidates must satisfy the interview panel that they have an
objective distance from any personal experience of
violence/abuse.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act
(Exceptions Order) 1975. It will be necessary for an
Enhanced Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records
Bureau for details of any previous criminal convictions.
