Preparation for Year 12 History
AQA Unit 1: 1C The Tudors: England, 1485–1603
Go to http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk and click on the Tudors box.
We will be starting with Henry VII (7th NOT 8th!) so read the first few pages
about him and produce a detailed fact file about his character, family and
challenges. Don’t get on to the rebellions yet but you can create a brief outline
of the War of the Roses.
Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/timelines/zxnbr82 for further info and clips.
AQA Unit 2: 2N Revolution and dictatorship: Russia, 1917–1953
We will be starting with: The condition of Russia before the revolution of
February/March 1917: the Tsar and political authority; the war effort; the
economic and social state of Russia; discontent.
Go to
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwone/eastern_front_01.shtml
Read the page and write notes on under the headings above (e.g. The
condition of Russia before the revolution) You can further your research by
looking at other websites/books/clips.
You can also find out about the famous assassination of the Russian Royal
family here:

This work should be completed over the summer, and brought to your first
History class in September. The work can be completed on paper or word
processed, but a hard copy should be given to your teacher in September. The
work should be completed in your own words, and independently.
IN ADDITION- to become even better prepared for your course in September
(and to really impress your teachers) try to also do the following:
For the Tudors there are lots of options as it is British History!
 Visit one or more of the wonderful free museums we have in London for
example the British Museum and The Museum of London and look at
the galleries covering the 1400s to early 1600s.
 Head to the National Portrait Gallery and look at the Tudors collection –
find the following people and consider how they have been portrayed in
these paintings:
o Henry VIII
o Edward VI
o Mary I
o Elizabeth I
o William Cecil
o Thomas Cranmer
o Robert Dudley
o Mary, Queen of Scots
o Philip II, King of Spain
 If you can go further away visit Hampton Court Palace and discover it’s
connection to the Tudors.
 Alternatively watch a documentary such as The Six Wives of Henry VIII
by David Starkey or A History of Britain by Simon Schama
For the Russian unit it harder to visit relevant museums and sites but you can
go to the Tate Museum (free!) and look at the Russian revolutionary posters
(take a look at the on line preview: http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tatemodern/display/russian-revolutionary-posters
Alternatively look for relevant documentaries that cover the time period. You
can also look at the overview on the AQA website for key people and events to
focus on.
We look forward to seeing what you have found out in September!
