Research plans that are responsive to this FOA will use existing bio-psycho-social and environmental data from human cohorts or animal studies that have biospecimens available for epigenetic profiling. The one year exploratory/ developmental awards are expected to generate preliminary data for comprehensive basic research applications to study interactions between epigenetics and social/behavioral/biological/environmental factors in both normal function and pathophysiology throughout life and across generations. The results may ultimately inform research to develop clinical decision/diagnostic tools and prevention/ treatment strategies. The program gives priority to: (1) Educating producers of crops currently not insured under Federal crop insurance, specialty crops, and underserved commodities, including livestock and forage; and (2) providing collaborative partnerships to develop and deliver crop insurance education and other risk management training. Education activities developed under the Risk Management Education Partnerships Program will provide U.S. farmers and ranchers, including limited resource, socially disadvantaged, and other traditionally under-served farmers and ranchers with training and information opportunities to be able to understand: 1.) The kinds of risks addressed by existing and emerging risk management tools; 2.) The features and appropriate use of existing and emerging risk management tools; and 3.) How to make sound risk management decisions. Interactive digital media may be websites, games, mobile applications, virtual environments, streaming video, podcasts, or other digital formats. Film and television projects may be single programs or a series addressing significant figures or events and drawing their content from humanities scholarship. The programs must be intended for national distribution. Radio projects may involve single programs, limited series, or segments within an ongoing program. They may also develop new humanities content to augment existing radio programming or add greater historical background or 22-4 America’s Historical and Cultural Organizations (NEH) America’s Historical and Cultural Organizations (AHCO) grants provide support for museums, libraries, historic places, and other organizations that produce public programs in the humanities. Grants support the following formats: exhibitions at museums, libraries, and other venues; interpretations of historic places, sites, or regions; book/film discussion programs; living history presentations; other face-toface programs at libraries, community centers, and other public venues; and interpretive websites and other digital formats. Types of America’s Historical and Cultural Organizations awards Planning grants support the early stages of project development, including consultation with scholars, refinement of humanities themes, preliminary design, testing, and audience evaluation. Implementation grants support final scholarly research and consultation, design development, production, and installation of a project for presentation to the public. 20130814GE (GG 6/10/13) URL: http://www.neh.gov/grants/ahco Deadline: 8/14/2013 ENGINEERING, MATHEMATICS & PHYSICAL SCIENCES 22-5 ROSES 2013: New (Early Career) Investigator Program in Earth Science (NASA) The New (Early Career) Investigator Program (NIP) in Earth Science is designed to support outstanding scientific research and career development of scientists and engineers at the early stage of their professional careers. The program aims to encourage innovative research initiatives and cultivate scientific leadership in Earth system science. The Earth Science Division (ESD) places particular emphasis on the investigators’ ability to promote and increase the use of space-based remote sensing through the proposed research. The NIP supports all aspects of scientific and technological research aimed to advance NASA’s mission in Earth system science. In basic research and analysis, the Focus Areas include: Carbon Cycle and Ecosystems, Climate Variability and Change, Water and Energy Cycle, Atmospheric Composition, Weather, and Earth Surface and Interior. In applied scientific A weekly publication of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. In technological research, the ESD aims to foster the creation and infusion of new technologies into space missions in order to enable new scientific observations of the Earth system or reduce the cost of current observations. The ESD also promotes innovative development in computing and information science and engineering of direct relevance to ESD. In planning Expeditions, investigators are encouraged to come together within or across departments or institutions to combine their creative talents in the identification of compelling, transformative research agendas that promise disruptive innovations in computing and information for many years to come. With awards funded at levels that promote the formation of research teams, CISE recognizes that concurrent research advances in multiple fields or sub-fields are often necessary to stimulate deep and enduring outcomes. The proposed resource must provide a significant benefit to currently funded high priority projects in need of further coordination and support in the areas specified. Under rare circumstances, this mechanism may be used to support development of a new resource to the broader scientific community of the NIAID. It is anticipated that the request for resource support through the R24 activity code will occur on an infrequent basis and only in circumstances where other mechanisms of support from the NIAID are not appropriate. The proposed resources should be relevant to the scientific areas of the NIAID mission including the biology, pathogenesis, and host response to microbes, including HIV; the mechanisms of normal immune function and immune dysfunction resulting in autoimmunity, immuno- deficiency, allergy, asthma, and transplant rejection; and translational research to develop vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics to prevent and treat infectious, immune-mediated, and allergic diseases. A lead entity that receives the award will oversee a multi-year plan that aims to disseminate information about good fatherhood parenting practices by building research and practice knowledge and capacity; leading and supporting further development and evaluation of evidence- or theory-based interventions to increase positive father involvement in the lives of their children; and increasing collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity building among investigators and practitioners. The Network will be expected to have a primary focus on economically disadvantaged fathers and families and other under studied population groups. The Network also will be expected to develop and disseminate research products and resources to facilitate knowledge sharing among multi-disciplinary researchers and among investigators, practitioners, program officials and policymakers.
