Goodpaster: 5th Grade Writing
Objective:
Expository Essay writing: 18A: Students will learn how to outline an essay and write a hook and thesis statement. (i) establish a central idea
in a topic sentence.
Grammar: Students will learn to locate nouns in a sentence.

Procedure
1. Punctuation/spelling Unit 7 (short and long “u” sound)
2. Students will continue the rotations:
3. IXL Nouns: I’ve had multiple students who have mastered the “what
is a noun” using yes and no questions. They are moving on to
identifying nouns as well as common and proper nouns. The
students who cannot master this concept will be dropped to the 3rd
grade section and during teacher small group, we will talk about it.
4. Teacher/Pre-writing: Students will finish the 1st outline for whom
they admire. (Advanced students are pre-writing about They’re
Back.)
5. Those two groups in the spelling rotation: Those who passed the
short list will continue on short /u/ and long /u/. Those who did not
will work on spelling city where they will begin the phonics spelling
process.
6. Those students in the writing rotation (instead of spelling) will write
a summary of the Nearpod.
