Nobel Summit Peace Laureates awarded Arcadi Oliveres and René Pérez

15.11.2015, Barcelona, Spain - Every year the participants of the World Summit of
Nobel Peace Laureates present two prizes – the Nobel Summit Peace Award and the
Nobel Summit Peace Medal – to activists, supporters of the movement for freedom and
civil rights fighters. These awards are usually given to famous people who put their
efforts on making the world a better place to live.
The Nobel Summit Peace Medal was presented to Spanish economist Arcadi
Oliveres Boadella. Born in Barcelona in 1945, Arcadi is famous in Catalonia, Spain and
around the world for fighting for democratic and political freedom during Franco’s
dictatorship. He was a member of the Sindicat Democràtic d‘Estudiants (Democratic
Students Union) and participated in the Assamblea de Catalunya (Assembly of
Catalunya) during the 1970s. With this association, in the summer of 1976 he
organized the Marxa per la Llibertat (March for Freedom) around Catalonia, with the
slogan, “Llibertat, Amnistia, Estatut d’Autonomia” (Freedom, Amnesty and Autonomy
Statute). In 1981, Arcadi started work with Justicia i Pau (Peace and Justice), a
Christian organization dedicated to promoting human rights and peace. He has been
the president of this organization from 2002 to 2014.
The Nobel Summit Peace Award 2015 was given to René Pérez Joglar, known as
Residente, former vocal lider of Calle 13.

Background
René Pérez Joglar, (born February 23, 1978 in Hato Rey, San Juan, Puerto Rico, better known
by his stage name "Residente", is a Puerto Rican lead singer and composer, former vocal
leader of the Puerto Rican band Calle 13, which also includes his siblings Ileana ("PG-13 or ILE
(singer)") and Eduardo ("Visitante"). He began his career singing reggaeton, but has moved
away from the genre, taking an experimental and varied approach to music, with his lyrics being
more geared to social and political concerns which combines hip-hop and urban with various
Latin American musical styles.
Arcadi Oliveres Boadella was born in Barcelona in 1945. He studied Economics at the Universitat
de Barcelona and achieved a PhD in 1993 with his thesis titled: the Defense Economy Cicle. In his
thesis he explained the relation between the public expense for military issues and the armament
industry. After this, he gained admission to the Department of Applied Economy at the Political
Science Faculty at Universitat de Barcelona. In his younger years, Arcadi was involved in several
social and catholic movements, fighting in favour of democratic and the political freedom during the
Spanish dictatorship. He was member of the Sindicat Democràtic d‘Estudiants (Democratic Students
Union) and during the 70’s he participated in the Assamblea de Catalunya (Assembly of Catalunya).
With this association in the summer of 1976, he organized the Marxa per la Llibertat (March for

Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental
organisation with its Executive Board based in Rome and Moscow.
