Year 4 Curriculum Information Class teachers – Mrs Coughlan, MR Pawlowski, Mrs springham Learning support assistants –MRS BUSH, mrs nicolaou, mrs lowe Autumn term: Parent Consultation Meeting: Wednesday 4th November 3.30pm -6pm Thursday 5th November 6pm – 8pm Spring term: Parent Consultation Meeting: Wednesday 10th February 3.30pm – 6pm Thursday 11th February 6pm – 8pm Summer term: Open evening to discuss any issues raised in your child's report: Tuesday 19th July, 2016. ____________________________________________ Usually: The children will be taking part in Literacy and Numeracy sessions daily. Science will be taught twice a week. Weekly lessons will be taught in: Spanish, Art (or Design and Technology), Geography (or History), Music, R.E., P.E., Games, I.C.T. and P.S.H.E. In Music, this term, the children will be having samba drumming sessions which will be starting this Friday. Some of the topics we will be covering in the Autumn Term are: Animals, Ancient Greece and a mini topic on The British Isles. (As the year progresses, we will let you know our new topics.) Every Thursday your child will have the opportunity to choose books from the school library once it is open. There is also a Year 4 library that the children can access as and when they need to. Class 4PS will have P.E./Games on Mondays and Tuesdays. Class 4RC will have P.E./Games on Mondays and Tuesdays. Class 4EP will have P.E./Games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please make sure that they have their named P.E. kit (shorts, T-shirt, plimsolls or trainers) at school on the above days. Children are also advised to bring in a tracksuit for outdoor games sessions during the winter months. Homework arrangements: Maths homework: This will usually be set once a week. Mrs. Springham’s set will receive homework on Wednesday to be given in the following Monday. Mr. Pawlowski’s set will receive homework on Thursday to be given in the following Monday. Mrs. Coughlan’s set will receive homework on Thursday to be given in the following Monday. The children will also have a weekly times tables challenge to complete so please encourage them to practise at home. Reading homework: Read at least three times a week to an adult. (Please date your child’s ‘Home Record Book’ each time you hear them read.) Other: Spellings to learn will be sent home, for all three classes, on Friday to be tested the following Friday. There will occasionally be some topic related research or Literacy to do. Additional information: Class assemblies: 4PS: Wednesday, 14th October, 2015 4RC: Wednesday, 13th January, 2016 4EP: Wednesday 25th May, 2016 Parents are welcome to attend at 10am in the main hall. Trips: We will let you know about these as the year progresses. We are hoping to visit a local synagogue as part of our R.E. curriculum, in October. Also we are hoping to book animal and Ancient Greek workshops. Staff training days: 23rd October, 2015, 4th January, 2016, 6th June, 2016. The school will be closed on these days. We hope that your child will be punctual for school. The doors open at 8.45am and the register is taken at 8.55am. Children coming in after this time need to sign in at the office. Holidays will not be authorised during term time unless permission is given by the Head. We are pleased that many of the children are bringing in a bottle of water to drink during the day and hope that they continue to do this. They are allowed to bring in fruit or raw vegetables for a snack at playtime if they would like to. (Cereal bars are not included.)
