Properties of Mercury’s Rocks Purpose: In this experiment you will be given an opportunity to use various observation methods to determine properties of several rocks from the planet Mercury. Materials: 5 different samples of rocks from Mercury (labeled 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) 3 M Hydrochloric Acid Water 0.5 M Copper (II) Chloride solution Magnet Conductivity tester Electronic Balance Ruler Anything found in your lab drawers (just check with me first) Procedure: 1. Come up with a list of as many properties as possible for each rock sample. Use the materials given to enhance your observations. Remember, whatever you try with one rock, attempt with the other three rocks, too. 2. Questions: Record your observations on a table. You will answer the questions proposed by your teacher after you have completed the lab.
