1. Hands on with Ginno Kelley (20 participant max)
Make and Take Promethean session. Come with ideas or even flipcharts that you would like to work on.
2. ActivEngage – Keeping it quick and simple
Come learn the quick and easy uses of ActivEngage. How to incorporate this powerful questioning tool
with other programs including powerpoint, websites, documents and ActivInspire. Teachers will learn how
to ask verbal “on the fly” questions and where to find resources for more in-depth uses of Engage. Don’t
underestimate the power of this real-time data. My goal is to keep it simple so teachers can go back to
class and hit the ground running with Engage!
3. Deadly Design
Take your flipcharts from "Dead in the water" to Deadly with some design tactics. Especially with a
multimedia tool like the Promethean board it is important that you use the right medium to deliver your
lessons and content. We will look at the good, the bad, and the ugly and some possible templates that
could be used with your math lessons. Come with ideas or even flipcharts that you would like to work on.
4. TI-84 Calculator
This session will provide a tutorial about using a Texas Instrument TI-84 graphing calculator. Bring a TI-84
calculator with you.
5. Casio Calculator
This session is designed for new Casio users or users that would like to refresh their skills.
6. Quality Questioning
This training offers practical guidance on using effective questioning techniques to advance thinking,
learning, and achievement for all students.
7. Introducing the MATHia Software (1 session)
Come learn about the MATHia Software for your intervention classes. Carnegie Learning offers
personalized math software solutions featuring our MATHia software powered by Cognitive Tutor. The
software features the most precise method of differentiated instruction available. The adaptive solutions
individualize instruction based on how students learn and include model and knowledge tracing as well as
continuous formative assessment. Engagement features such as interest areas, characters and choice
options help hold student’s interest while they are using it. The motivation aspects like badges, messageof-the-day and dynamic map keep them coming back for me.

8. Introducing the Cognitive Tutor Software (1 session)
This adaptive curricula, Cognitive Tutor software, is based on over 20 years of research into how students
think and learn. The software was developed around an artificial intelligence model that identifies
weaknesses in each individual student's mastery of mathematical concepts. It then customizes prompts to
focus on areas where the student is struggling, and sends the student to new problems that address those
specific concepts. The result is a powerful learning tool with the most precise method of differentiating
instruction available.

9. Carnegie Learning: Using Data to Drive Planning and Instruction (2 sessions)
Now that your students have started to use the software, do you know how to use the data? The software
tracks every keystroke, time, mastery of content, pre- and post-test results and much more. There are
over 15 reports that can be used to drive your planning and instruction. Come learn more about these
reports, grading, and how to discuss the data with the students.

12. Algebra 1 Statistics SOLs
Get a deeper understanding of the new statistics content in Algebra 1 and become aware of what
students will be assessed on when they take the SOL! This session will explore the vertical articulation of
the new statistics standards beginning at the 5th grade level and continue through Algebra 1.
13. Algebra 2 Statistics SOLs
Get a deeper understanding of the new statistics content in Algebra 2 and become aware of what
students will be assessed on when they take the SOL! This session will explore the vertical articulation of
the new statistics standards in Algebra 1, AFDA and Algebra 2.
14. SAT prep
Start putting a plan in place to help your students perform better on their SATs. Meet and learn about the
resources available for you and your students.
15. Problem-Based Learning
Incorporate a student‐centered instructional strategy in which students collaboratively solve problems
and reflect on their experiences.
16. Math software
See all of the math applications and software that are available to you on your Dell computers!
17. Collaborative teaching
What should a collaborative classroom look like? Join this session to learn about best practices and roles
of the teachers.

4. VASS grant – honors and AP teachers
FOR AP, PRE‐AP, and HONORS MATH TEACHERS. This session focuses on connecting lessons in pre‐AP
classes (including non‐honors classes starting with Alg 1) with the style and perspective of AP Statistics
and Calculus exam questions will expose students to more sophisticated problem solving methods and
higher level communication challenges. During this session we will be working in content area groups (Alg
1, Geometry, Alg 2) to develop lessons and questions that translate SOL style questions into AP exam style
questions. The fruit of our labors will be refined and sent to participants to use in their classrooms.
5. Foundations of Algebra: Open Forum (mandatory for FOA teachers)
Come share with other colleagues: What is going great? What do your students like best? What do you
like best? Discuss the positives, concerns, issues that you are having with implementation. We will be
sharing best practices geared towards the high school students.
6. MATHia: Open Forum for middle school teachers (at least 1 per school)
Come share with other colleagues: What is going great? What do your students like best? What do you
like best? Discuss the positives, concerns, issues that you are having with implementation. We will be
sharing best practices geared towards the middle school students.
7. Content sessions
Meet with other teachers to discuss content, planning, best practices, or brainstorm lesson
plans/activities.
