January Meeting Minutes MWC Meeting 12/03/2012 Annual Dinner

Susan Waters, Vice President, offered the blessing and invited members to enjoy their meal during the meeting. Secretary’s Report: Susan made a motion to approve the December meeting minutes. Eric seconded the motion and membership approved unanimously. Special Presentation: Cheryl introduced our guest speakers Shannon Lane, Melanie Stevens and Lori Seiler. Our guests are Woman’s Club representatives from District 4 and GFWC NC. We were encouraged to attend the following 2012 events: March 10: GFWC-NC State Art Festival Jamboree held at Campbell University; April 26 -28: GFWC-NC 110 th Convention held at Airport Embassy Suites in Greensboro June 13 – 17: GFWC 121 st Convention (International Meeting); Charlotte July 21: District 4 Summer Meeting, Mt. Airy October 13: District 4 Fall Meeting, Winston Salem Hunger Initiatives: Susan announced that we have open delivery time slots for Meals on Wheels. The commitment is for 90 minutes and starts at 9:15 am. Susan encouraged members to sign up to help with deliveries. Becky and Marlo delivered 15 laundry baskets filled with paper products to MOW clients. Becky stated that recipients were thankful for the paper products and excited about receiving the laundry baskets. The paper products were collected at the December MWC meeting held at Bonnie’s home. Health and Wellness Initiatives: Sherri announced that Mebane Walks will hold a walking contest between the churches starting March 3 rd and ending at the Dogwood 5k. Sherri asked for volunteers who attend Hawfields Presbyterian and First Baptist Church. Recognition of 2011 Members: Becky recognized Judy Taylor, 2011 Treasurer and Cheryl Ray, 2011 Secretary and Bonnie Adams, 2011 Sponsorship Leader. Initiation of 2012 New Members: Initiated into the club were Marlo Countiss, Rachel Zamorski, Lori Helgeson, Katie Burkholder, and April White Election of 2012 Officers: Judy made a motion to accept the nomination of Becky Malone for President, Susan seconded the motion. The membership approved the motion

unanimously. Bonnie made a motion to accept the nomination of Susan for Vice President, Cheryl seconded the motion. The membership approved the motion unanimously. Marlo made a motion to accept the nomination of Sherri for Secretary, Susan seconded the motion. The membership approved the motion unanimously. Judy made a motion to accept the nomination of Cheryl for Treasurer, Susan seconded the motion. The membership approved the motion unanimously. 2012 officers were installed as noted: Becky Malone, President; Susan Waters, Vice President; Sherri Buckner, Secretary; Cheryl Ray, Treasurer. Spring Fundraiser: Bonnie handed out sponsorship packets and requested that each member present the material to at least one business to assist in collecting donations and sponsorships for the spring fundraiser. The fundraiser will be held May 5, 2012 at Mill Creek clubhouse and the theme will be “Hats and Horses.” We will watch the Kentucky Derby, enjoy casino action, food, beverages and DJ is Billy St. Pierre. Treasurer's Report:

Garden Checking $94.19 Main Checking $2,624.88 MOTM Checking $7,438.52 Savings CD 1 $1,172.83 Savings CD 2 $2,039.34 The check received on 2/7/2012 from the Kiwanis for $1200 is included in the above totals.

Reimbursements:

$95.31 for backpacks: reimbursement to Annie Martinie previously approved $502.00 for MOTM: reimbursement to Rebecca Brouwer previously approved Rebecca motioned to reimburse Susan $30.96 for general expenditures, Judy seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Rebecca motioned to reimburse Becky for annual dinner items out of the general account for $79.02, Bonnie seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Up to $150.00 was approved by the membership present for MOW program expenditures. Bonnie motioned to approve up to $100.00 for website expenditures for Rebecca, Judy seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Judy motioned to approve debit cards for Annie Martinie and Rebecca Brouwer for MOTM expenditures, Becky seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously.

Spring Fundraiser:

Bonnie announced that she has no written commitments for donations nor sponsorships. She respectfully requested that members send her an email informing her of someone's interest to donate and she will make the follow up contact.

Bonnie had additional sponsorship packets available for members. Reminder that the goal for 2012 is to have 3 auction items per member and / or 3 sponsors! Next spring fundraiser meeting is March 7 th at 6:30 pm at Bonnie's house.

Home Life Initiatives:

MOTM: Rebecca announced the Mebane City Trails will have mile markers placed within the next few weeks. $15,000 was granted from the City of Mebane to assist with the City Trails project. Rebecca requested to report MOTM budget updates and expenditures on a quarterly basis. Becky stated that the debit card should assist with decreasing the monthly requests for reimbursement, but the Club still needs a monthly update on how monies are spent. Rebecca stated the Wellness Coalition met to discuss the needs of Mebane. Sixteen citizens, including teachers, police officers and pastors gathered at the MACC for the first quarterly meeting to discuss initiatives for 2012. The 3 projects the group determined have the highest need and interest are: Holt Street Park revitalization, Farmer's Market and COPS (Community Outreach Police). Battle of the Churches: Sherri reported that 6 churches are signed up to participate in the Battle of the Churches challenge. The churches and coordinators are: St. Marks – Jennifer Mock Hawfields Presbyterian – Caroline Massey Mebane United Methodist Church – Sherri Buckner Grace Reformed Baptist – Laura Johnston Cross Link Baptist – Kitza Williams First Baptist – Beth Ashby Rachel's Challenge – Kimberly Yarborough, social worker for Woodlawn middle school, was invited to attend MWC meeting. Judy attended the Kiwanis meeting today and Kimberly gave an update on Rachel's Challenge. The students have participated in a coat drive, blanket drive and are starting their good deed links. Kimberly is very positive about the program and still trying to get more buy-in from the teachers. She is taking the Links program to Pleasant Grove Elementary School. Running Shoes – Rebecca mentioned that the children in the running program are in need of running shoes and gently used running shoes are a welcome donation. Becky recommended calling Carl at WalMart for donation of shoes. It was recommended to start a committee called “Heart & Souls” to collect running shoes for children. Cross Link Church requested a bike donation from MOTM for their Health Day to be used as a grand prize. Bonnie requested that the donation be from MWC and not specifically from MOTM. Bonnie motioned for a bike to be donated valued up to $100.00 for the Cross Link Health Day, Cheryl seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously.

Hunger Initiatives:

Meals-On-Wheels – Susan was not present for an update. Calendar still needs volunteers.

Conservation Initiatives:

Mebane Community Garden – Rebecca reported that every plot in the garden has been rented. This is the second year in a row the garden has sold out and gardeners have been turned away. Rebecca stated that we may consider asking the city for more land. Rebecca announced that one of the gardeners passed away and gardeners will create a memorial garden. Stephanie Rumple is taking over the PR for the garden. March 17 th and 18 th are garden workdays.

Literacy:

Read Across America – Becky encouraged every member to participate in Read-Across America on March 2 nd by reading in a school classroom. Bonnie challenged members to bring a picture of ourselves reading to a classroom to be entered to win a ticket to the Hats & Horses Derby party. Prom Dress Drive – Sylvia volunteered to spearhead this event. Sylvia will contact Amanda Blankenship to explore her interest in participating. Judy has last year's unused dresses at her home. Jill volunteered to use Sol Garden as a drop-off location. Judy announced Woodlawn Middle School will hold their career fair on March 13 th from 8:00 – 2:00 and members were encouraged to participate. The career fair will be held at the Woodlawn Middle School gym.

Special Projects:

Becky announced that the Club still needs ideas for 500 gift items for guests at the GFWC state convention. Charms were discussed – wine and dogwood. Becky requested that we think about new initiatives for the Club for 2012, specifically in the arts category and international category. Rachel requested pictures for the MWC website. Status of 5013c – the IRS requested money, so we are moving forward. Bonnie motioned for approval of January’s minutes, Sarah seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Treasurer's Report:

General Checking $1747.70 MOTM Checking $5921.10 Garden Checking $509.19 CD 1 $2060.37 CD 2 $1176.52 Cheryl reported that our checks are on order with PNC bank. Bank cards have to be assigned to a member, therefore we are waiting to discuss assigning a MOTM card to Rebecca upon her return. It was decided by the club after general discussion to allow one of the CDs to mature.

Reimbursements:

$326.66 for tee-shirts for Mebane Walks; $1234.43 gear for kids running club; $292.50 for coaches jackets: total reimbursement is $1853.59 to Rebecca Brouwer (requested on her behalf by Cheryl Ray): Susan motioned to reimburse Rebecca for expenses, Judy seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously Sherri requested reimbursement for $16.44 for printing for Mebane Walks items: Marlo motioned to reimburse Sherri, Susan seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously

Spring Fundraiser:

Bonnie reported that Burlington Honda agreed to be a sponsor. Susan reported that Biz Marie has donated a basket of hair products for the auction. Marlo reported that she is donating a few collector dolls for the auction. Rachel reported that Southern States will donate an item for auction. Jen reported that Salubrious Massage donated a one hour massage for auction (Jen gave the certificate to Sherri). Sheron reported that Zbowl will donate a party for auction. Bonnie reported that Sarah is donating a knife set and framed picture. All donated items can be stored at Sherri's house and the list of auction items needs to be finalized by mid-April in order to complete the auction booklets. Becky requested support for Bonnie's fundraising efforts even if it's in the form of writing emails and Katie volunteered. The fundraising committee is budgeting for 120 people to attend. The next meeting is tomorrow night, March 7 th at Bonnie's house. Sheron described a successful fundraiser: Carolina Blue Ball, blue grass band on a flat bed truck, guests bring own food, own drink, own chair and pay entry fee to hear band.

Home Life Initiatives:

MOTM: Sherri requested feedback from the club on holding a flash-mob as a MOTM initiative. Sherri reported that she received approval from the Mebane Police Chief to hold the flash mob in the Dick and Jane's parking lot and his team can manage some overflow in the street blocking no more than one lane. The club was supportive of holding a flash mob as a MOTM initiative and recommended holding the event during Clay Street After Work in order to use the PA system and have the streets already blocked off. It was also recommended to hold another flash mob at the MACC on the field during the 4 th of July festivities and again downtown during the Harvest Festival. It was requested that Sherri ensure dancers are covered under insurance or have them sign releases. Battle of the Churches: Sherri reported that 30 walkers attended the 'kick-off' walk on March 3 rd for the BOC Challenge and over 300 are signed up for the challenge.

Hunger Initiatives:

Meals-On-Wheels – Susan reviewed the MOW program: 3 rd Thursday of every month, pick up at Baptist Church 9:15 – 10:00 AM; there is a folder with directions to the clients homes and it takes 2 people to make the deliveries – one is a driver, the second is a runner; entire delivery takes one hour.

Susan circulated the sign-up sheet for MOW

Conservation Initiatives:

Susan reported that March 17 th and 18 th are garden work days. The local Brownie troop is making new plot markers and Becky suggested that the markers be mounted in the corner of each plot.

Literacy:

Prom Dress Drive – Sherri forwarded the Prom Dress Drive flyer authored by Sylvia to every member and requested that every member print the flyer and hang it in the community. Judy reported that we need larger size dresses; 10, 12, 14 are needed. It was recommended that we contact QC Cleaners for assistance with cleaning the dresses. Sylvia is managing this project. Special Projects: Guest speaker, Tara Corbett, requested volunteers for the Dogwood 5K. The course is certified, the race is April 27 th at 6:30 PM and is held at EM Yoder. Tara specifically mentioned a need for an MC and bikers. Tara circulated a volunteer sign-up sheet to members. Becky asked if we could advertise for the spring fundraiser at the race and Tara responded that if we wanted to provide the snacks for the race, we could then possibly advertise. Becky mentioned that we need to focus on increasing our membership. Membership dues are $50 for new members and you are immediately registered as a member but inducted the following January. Judy reported that within 90 days we will receive an update on the 5013c. Susan reported that EHS needs volunteers to judge senior projects on April 24 th . If you are interested in assisting with this project, contact Susan. Bonnie motioned for February minutes to be approved, Susan seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously.

Treasurer's Report:

MOTM - $7,045.82 Main - $4,178.07 Garden - $669.19 CD - $1,177.57 Cheryl reported that we cashed out the CD that was scheduled to rollover to PNC and put the monies into our general account. This decision was made in order to have enough funds available going into our annual fundraiser. It was also reported that we are still collecting outstanding donations from last year’s fundraiser.

Reimbursements:

Prior to meeting: Paid Tammy Rice $361.35 Prior to meeting: Paid for printing a total of $197.49 Cheryl requested reimbursement in the amount of $9.00 for the purchase of stamps. Bonnie motioned to reimburse Cheryl, Katie seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously.

Spring Fundraiser:

Tina shared ideas about hosting a theme party as a donation for the spring fundraiser. Tina mentioned throwing a lobster bake, hosting Italian night, a Mexican Fiesta, or a Tacky Prom party as ideas. General discussion was held by members present regarding auction items. Bonnie reiterated that Burlington Honda is a Gold sponsor, 3 D Design is a card sponsor,

Smith Orthodontics is donating $5,000 value of service, Dr. Troutman is donating a dental package valued at $700 and Mill Creek is donating rounds of golf. Bonnie reviewed the show-flow / agenda 5:00 – Doors open 6:15 – 6:30 Watch Derby coverage on TV 6:30 – DJ starts, casino action starts 9:00 – Live auction 11:00 - Close Becky- ALL members should take home SIX tickets to sell for the fundraiser! Hat maker will be at Solgarden April 5 th , if you want to purchase a fun hat! Tickets are on sale on MWC website.

Home Life Initiatives:

MOTM: Rebecca reported that the Kids Running Clubs are doing great and they are registering for the Dogwood 5k. Battle of the Churches: Sherri reported that the challenge is going well and stated that over 400 people are participating. Flash Mob: Sherri reported that the flash mob will be at Dogwood after the 5k and we are partnering with Terry Gasperino with Zumba. Rehearsals will be at Xtreme Dance.

Hunger Initiatives:

Meals-On-Wheels – Sherri circulated the sign-up sheet for MOW and asked for volunteers on Susan’s behalf.

Conservation Initiatives:

Rebecca reported that a new lawn mower was purchased for the community garden by King Nelson. King still owes $40 for the rental on his plot, so let the minutes reflect that we will deduct the $40 from the monies owed to King prior to reimbursement. Rebecca shared that Stephanie Rample is the new outreach coordinator and will be handling the website, PR and the community garden logo.

Literacy:

Prom Dress Drive – Sylvia reported that she has collected 40 or 50 dresses but we need to find children who are interested. Only one child at Eastern Alamance has expressed an

interest in having a dress. Becky asked that we hold donations to the Classroom Closet until the fall. Special Projects: Erin asked that we support the Alamance Summer Swim League and make a monetary donation to the league. Erin also mentioned that you do not have to be a member of Dogwood in order to be on the swim team. Sherri made a motion to donate $100 to the league, Rebecca seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. It was agreed that we will have a dual banner at the Dogwood swim meets MWC / MOTM. Rebecca stated that she would like to present at our club meeting in June on an idea she has for an international project. Rebecca recently returned from Kenya and would like to share her insight. Becky mentioned that we need to focus on increasing our membership. Cheryl reported that we currently have 33 members; 8 are new, 2 re-joined. Erin motioned for March minutes to be approved, Rebecca seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Bonnie requested reimbursement for glow rings in the amount of $87.90 and other items for the spring fundraiser for $461.30; Katie motioned to reimburse Bonnie, Sherri seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Katei made the motion to pay Billy St. Pierre $300.00 to be the disc jockey at the spring fundraiser, Judy seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Sherri requested reimbursement for $74.96 for decoration items for the spring fundraiser; Judy made the motion for reimbursement, Cheryl seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Rebecca requested reimbursement for $102.72 for garden items; Sherri made the motion for reimbursement, Katie seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Sherri requested that a payment in the amount of $159.16 be made to Signs for the spring fundraiser banners and signs; Bonnie made the motion for payment, Cheryl seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Becky requested that $50 be donated to MYSA so MWC can be a sponsor; Bonnie made the motion to donate $50 to MYSA, Katie seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Sherri requested that $200 be donated to Loaves and Fishes out of the MOTM account for the Battle of the Churches contest as pre-approved; Bonnie made the motion to make the payment / donation to Loaves and Fishes, Jen Roth seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously.

Prior approval was given for WalMart gift certificates for up to $250 for Bonnie Bonnie requested approval to spend $160 on roses for the spring fundraiser; Jen Roth made the motion to approve, Katie seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously.

Spring Fundraiser:

Per Bonnie: $4800 silent auction items $11,375 live auction items Total value of current auction items: $16,215 Cheryl passed the sign-up sheet around for members to volunteer to work the spring fundraiser.

Home Life Initiatives:

MOTM – Sherri gave an update on the kids participation in the Dogwood 5k and what a success the Kids Running Program was for MOTM. Sherri also informed the members about the documentary MOTM is making to enter into a contest with the prize valued at $25,000. Battle of the Churches – Sherri gave an update on the winners for the BOC challenge; Mebane Methodist Church won for highest mileage per participant at 27 miles and Grace Reformed Baptist Church won for highest percentage of participants with over 40% of their congregation participating. The traveling trophies were awarded to the churches at the conclusion of the Dogwood 5k along with a check for $200 to Loaves and Fishes in honor of the 2 churches.

Conservation Initiatives:

Community Garden – The garden is currently full and the garden workday was last weekend. There will be a memorial garden for a member who passed away. Another work day is scheduled for May 12 th . Carl Potter donated mulch and all garden members are welcome to use the mulch. Community Garden tee shirts have been designed and are for sale

Literacy:

Prom Dress Drive – The prom is this Saturday and there is no report on the dress drive.

It was suggested to discuss allocation of money at a planning meeting and to hold off on further discussion until June. It was discussed that it is difficult to give an individual money vs giving the money / donation directly to ACC. We need to work with the schools on how they want the donations. It was mentioned that schools want a minimum of $1,000 for scholarships.

Special Projects:

Becky worked with Tracy Page on the wine charms for Woman’s Club conference and submitted the idea. The committee is not interested in the wine charm at this time. Bonnie made a motion to approve $400 for tee shirts and Judy seconded the motion; members present approved unanimously. Judy introduced the idea for a new tee shirt design under ‘new business.’ Katie motioned for April minutes to be approved, Jen seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. June Meeting Minutes MWC Meeting 6/5/2012 Attendance:

Reimbursements:

Tracy requested reimbursement for gift cards and supplies for Hats & Horses spring fundraiser in the amount of $182.64. Judy motioned to reimburse Tracy, Bonnie seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Rebecca announced that she spent $229.10 on tote bags for the Farmers Market. This money was pre-approved. Rebecca requested reimbursement for webhosting expenses in the amount of $32.85. Bonnie motioned to reimburse Rebecca, Tracy seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Bonnie requested reimbursement for printing material for Hats & Horses spring fundraiser in the amount of $152.95. Sherri motioned to reimburse Bonnie, Judy seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Katie motioned to allow Rebecca and Annie to move line items within MOTM budget, Bonnie seconded the motion and membership present approved unanimously. Cheryl requested reimbursement for post office box fee in the amount of $48.00. Bonnie motioned to reimburse Cheryl, Marlo seconded and membership present approved unanimously. Cheryl reported that a donation to Hospice was made in memory of Harold Thornton, Jill Auditori’s father. Erin requested reimbursement in the amount of $32.63 for renewal of web hosting for MOTM, King’s plot, tee shirt. Bonnie reported on the debrief meeting with the Hats & Horses committee: - We tried new things this year and it was overall a success - Disappointed in ticket sales of 73 - We had $20k in auction items - - If you have feedback, send it to Bonnie Not sure we will repeat a Kentucky Derby theme since it made for a long day Discussion of fundraiser ideas followed: - Family friendly - Get teachers involved / challenge schools - Themes: Spring Break, Togo Party, Keno - Men feel cheated, guys combining chips

Other Announcements: Bonnie stated that Jen Mock sent a thank you note for the funds to ACC Judy asked about college admission fees when applying to college and if we are able to use funds for that purpose.

Cheryl motioned to cancel the July 3 rd meeting due to the holiday, Katie seconded the motion and members present approved unanimously. Bonnie motioned to approve of the May minutes, Katie seconded the motion and members present approved unanimously. It was unanimous to dispense in the reading of the Club Collect. Home Life Initiatives:

MOTM: Bonnie reported that last year at this time we had $9500 in sponsorship donations, this year we have $8500. Mad Dash – meeting with teachers August 20 th to share information and encourage them to get children involved. 15 min presentations. Annie will present at South Mebane and Garrett, Becky will present at Yoder and Bradford. Deb Keithley is coordinating volunteers for entire race (5k, 10k, Mad Dash) Bonnie motioned to pay insurance for the event in the amount of $199, Rebecca seconded the motion and members present approved unanimously. Bonnie motioned to approve funds distributed for sanctions (USATF and NC) Beth seconded the motion, members present approved unanimously. Rebecca motioned for up to $600 for port-a-potty rental, Katie seconded the motion, members present approved unanimously. Rebecca reported that the police want to be involved in this year’s event. More reports on MOTM: - Stickers are not needed - Signage is $300 - Ribbons for children, need to use sponsor money - Marketing Material $26

- Banner $150 - Tee Shirts $3700 - Prize money $1400 - Mad Dash $1500 Bonnie motioned to transfer $1,000 from Educational Fund to MOTM, Rebecca seconded the motion, members present approved unanimously. Coalition for Wellness – 3 priorities; improve Farmers Market, Start quarterly health / wellness events, improve Holt Street Park. Rebecca reported that the city will replace the fence, add parking but we want a natural play space. Annie and Rebecca reported that the cost will be $8000; BeActive will cover $4000, city will donate some, we need more money. Farmers Market is so thankful for the support. They asked for gravel for their space which will be about $250. Discussion followed and it was agreed that they need to ask someone else for the donation. Annie motioned to file for a 0% direct cost policy where we do not pay overhead, Rebecca seconded the motion, members present approved unanimously. Judy asked if it would effect any other MWC policies. Annie discussed her visit to Summerville, MA and the importance of changes being bought into by the city leaders. Someone needs to be at the decision making table. Rebecca and Annie will meet with Jill and Patti to discuss proposed phased buy-in.

Conservation Initiatives:

Mebane Community Garden – Rebecca reported that the ground hog is gone and that she is stepping down from managing the garden. She will inquire of Susan Waters’ interest to take on this project. Rebecca reported that Hillsborough wants to start a garden and Rebecca will offer guidance. Rebecca reported that she had a check for $17.50 for tee shirt and 2 checks for $35 to deposit.

Special Projects:

Nominating Committee – Becky stated that we need a nominating committee in place by September, this does not mean that those who serve on the committee must be officers. Please let Becky know if you are interested in being on the nominating committee. Spring Fundraiser – Becky stated that we need to get together to discuss and plan the spring fundraiser. Becky will spearhead this committee, just think about themes.

Autumn Fest – Located downtown Mebane, Rebecca can help. Last year we had a few tents and promoted Mebane Walks, we had trail maps and tattoos for kids. Rebecca wants to purchase plastic up to $125 out of general fund. Bonnie motioned that Rebecca be allowed to spend up to $125 for the Autumn Fest, Katie seconded the motion, all members present approved unanimously. Rebecca will handle the marketing. Evan will handle the application process, Annie will handle sign-ups for the booth. Woman’s Club District Meeting is October 20 th in Winston Salem. It does not appear there is any interest in attending. Classes are Saturday 8:30 – 1:00 Classroom Closet – Discussed having a school supply drive or giving gift certificates directly to the teachers. Bonnie will ask all principals how we should handle this and report back to the club. Evan reported that one third of students at Elon are considered homeless so supplies are vital. EM Yoder, Garrett and Woodlawn all have new principals. Christmas Parade – Rebecca will create a Doodle Poll to send out to the club to determine interest in being in the Mebane Christmas parade. Rachel reported via email that the website has been updated. June minutes were not completed for review. October Meetings Minutes MWC Meeting 10/2/2012

Attendance: Members: Bonnie Adams, Jennifer Roth, Rebecca Brouwer, Katie Burkholder, Cheryl Ray and guest Jane Hudson. Meeting called to order by Bonnie Adams, appointed to run the meeting, at 7:05 p.m. Treasurer’s Report: Garden Checking: $536.10 General Checking: $9,824.71 MOTM Checking: $8,709.02 Savings CD1: $1,184.40 Reimbursements: No reimbursements noted. Health and Wellness Initiative: Rebecca announced that she had $4,025.00 to turn in for MOTM registration income. Bonnie reviewed the outstanding sponsorships and noted she was confident that MOTM would secure the pledged funds. Kudos to Katie and Bonnie for their successful recruitment of sponsorships. MOTM updates, We’ll know about how much the organization cleared on the MOTM race in the coming weeks. We are confident that we exceeded our financial goal. Racers surveys are going out this week and so far mostly all positive feedback has been received. Rebecca is stepping down as event director and will help Denise with the 5K/10K logistics for 2013. We are looking for a new event director and welcome volunteers. Checks will be written tonight for the four schools that participated in the Mad Dash. The initiative has a Health/Wellness Fair at the MACC on 10/27 from 9-1 p.m. Annie is working with the MOTM coalition for details. Flyers are going out on Friday. Mebane Walks has seven sessions currently being offered and MebFit has five. Holt Street Park has a coalition working on the update and changes there. Unfortunately MOTM didn’t receive the prize that was applied for. Suggestions on applying for a BSBCNC grant for MOTM was discussed. Conservation Initiatives: We have money left over in the Community Garden account. We typically don’t have these funds. Ideas and Conversation was had on how to spend the money for community impact. Home Life Initiatives: A short update on Rachel’s Challenge was given. The new Principal at Woodlawn would like for MWC to give Rachel’s Challenge one more shot within the school. A discussion needs to be had when more members are present.

Hunger Initiatives: Meals on Wheels update, the schedule went out for the rest of the year. October’s date is covered. We are tabling the idea till November in regards to the Holiday special treat for our route recipients. Bonnie made a motion to donate $500.00 to Loaves and Fishes in Mebane from the General Account, Rebecca seconded the motion and all members present agreed unanimously. A email will go out with information on a photo op to submit pictures into the Mebane Enterprise for publicity. Literacy and Education Initiatives: A plug was put out to members to think about what our Spring fundraiser would be like this year. The idea currently is to have a second chance prom. Finding a location is proving to be the most difficult. Additional conversation will be had at the next meeting.

Additional Announcements:

After reviewing out account totals the members present started to discuss ideas on how we can give money back to our community and make an impact. We decided to make November our meeting that was all about giving. We will send a call out to members to suggest ways and organizations in which we can sponsor and donate to. Nomination Committee will be seeking/soliciting for members for roles on the MWC Board next year. The committee consists of Becky Malone, Erin Nelson and Rebecca Brouwer. Nominations will be presented at the November meeting. Bonnie has possibly volunteered for being the host of the Holiday Social in December. More information will be made available at the next meeting. MWC will participate in a Habitat for Humanity build day. Susan is leading this effort and information will be emailed out to all members. After the Habitat for Humanity conversation, another opportunity was bounced around. There is a property located near Rebecca’s home. There is a possibility that associations and help to fix up the property and then utilize the space for meetings and such in return. Additional information will be provided to membership at one of the next meetings. Discussion was had in regards to the City of Mebane Christmas Parade. MWC will participate in the parade. Becky Malone is heading up the Committee and needs a few more volunteers to help. We need all MWC members to participate that evening. Bonnie shared her hope of getting McDonald’s to donate Apple Dippers for passing out in lieu of candy at the parade. An announcement was made to remind members that the GFWC-NC District Four Fall meeting would be in Winston Salem on Saturday, October 20 th . It is 8:00-12:30 p.m. If you have interest in attending like Becky or Cheryl know.
