Seminar
Labour Law Update
Discussions on the latest employment law judgments
Aim of Seminar
Keeping practitioners abreast with the very latest employment law judgments – most judgments to be
discussed were delivered after September 2014.
The seminar will not be delivered as a conventional lecture – participants will rather be presented with various
scenarios with the intention of discussing the different options open to either an employee or employer.
Thereafter, a judgment, relevant to the scenario, will be discussed to highlight what our courts have said when
faced with a similar set of facts. Judgments under discussion are specifically chosen to elicit debate among
participants. In addition to the judgments, certain key amendments to the Labour Relations Act will be debated.
Each participant will be given a booklet containing a summary of every judgment reviewed. Each summary will
be approximately a 1 000 words in length and will include a quote from the judgment which encapsulates the
relative legal principle. A "Certificate of Attendance" will be posted to you after the seminar.
Expert Presenter
Moksha Naidoo practises as an advocate and is a member of the Johannesburg Bar. He focuses exclusively
on employment law. By invitation, Moksha has, on two occasions acted as a judge at the Labour Court.
Since 2006, Adv Naidoo has been summarising employment law judgments. From 2010, he has written a
monthly column in De Rebus. From 2005 to 2012, he was a statutory arbitrator at various bargaining councils.
