Professional Experience 1 & 2 – 2014
School Placements
UTS: Education is seeking your selection of preferences for both your first and second semester professional experience
school placements. You can indicate a preference for a government or an independent school. If you indicate a
preference for an independent school you will need to contact the Professional Experience Office as soon as
possible and no later than Monday 17 February, 2014. If you attend an independent school for one placement you
must do your second placement in a government school.





It is vital that you attend the Orientation Briefing Session for important information about the professional
experience school placement.
Please ensure you hand the attached Expression of Interest form in as soon as possible to the Professional
Experience Office – Rm. 2.3.94. Please retain all other information sheets for future reference.
Should you, AT ANY TIME, withdraw from a Professional Experience subject, please make sure you ring
the Professional Experience Office on 9514 5289/5409 immediately. My Student Admin does not
automatically inform the Professional Experience Office.
You still need to complete your preferences for a government school even if you hope to attend an independent
school.
All government school allocations must be managed by the Professional Experience Office.
Please do not approach any government school yourself. If you have a contact at a government school that
could be useful in securing a position please inform the Professional Experience Office.
Semester 1 Professional Experience 1: 22 Days
7 compulsory days Orientation/Observation/Teaching
15 compulsory days teaching
All days to be supervised by your cooperating teacher. There will be a UTS campus based day on Friday 9th May.
Commencing Monday 28th April and concluding Wednesday 28th May, 2014
Semester 2 Professional Experience 2: 22 Days
3 compulsory days Orientation/Observation/Teaching
19 compulsory days teaching
All days to be supervised by your cooperating teacher. There will be a UTS campus based day on Friday 29th August.
Commencing Monday 18th August and concluding Wednesday 17th September, 2014.
There are many variables that are taken into account in the process of appointing students to schools for professional
experience. This is a highly complex process. We take your preferences into account when assigning school
placements.
However, we cannot guarantee that you will be assigned a school place from your initial choices.
Information packages including details of school placement will be available from the Professional Experience Office
(Rm 2.394) once placements are completed. We cannot negotiate any changes once placement has been assigned. It is
your responsibility to adjust your work and travel arrangements to facilitate punctual attendance at your school
throughout this period.
