The National Diploma for Dental Nurses Course start date: Tuesday 5 January 2016 Time: 4.15pm -7.30pm Term times Where: Somerset Primary Care Dental Services, Southwood House, 2-4 Taunton Road, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 3LS Tutors: Tracey Alexander, Clea Carter, Sue Wilson Length of course: 1 year Course fees: £1,400 this will include all tuition fees, work book and NEBDN Record of experience. Exam entry fees: £450 this includes the OSCE. This is the current cost and may be subject to change by the NEBDN. Course Structure The course follows the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses programme and will provide you with both the knowledge and skills to enter the National Diploma for Dental Nurses based on the new curriculum that is competency based as set by the General Dental Council. The course covers the following syllabus areas, over a set period of time: Health & Safety and Infection Control in the Workplace Emergencies in the clinical Environment Legal & Ethical Issues in the Provision of Dental Care Anatomical Structures & Systems Relative to Dental Care Oral Disease and Pathology Patient Care & Management Assessing Patient’s Needs & Treatment Planning Oral Health Promotion & Preventative Dentistry Restorative Dentistry Oral Surgery Orthodontic Procedures Dental Drugs, Materials, Instruments and equipment Pain and anxiety Control In Dentistry Radiography Communication Learning will take place through theoretical and practical based skills. Continual assessments will be undertaken using examination formats, including multiple choice questions (MCQ’s) and extended matching questions(EMQ’s) charting and OSCE settings. Feedback will be continually provided. Entry requirements: Currently employed as a Trainee dental Nurse and work in a dental surgery. Commitment and willingness to work in order to complete the course. Support from your dental practice with work completion, assessment and review. A successful interview. The student must have a good standard of education and the equivalent of 3 GCSEs including maths and English. The course requires good communication and literacy skills to study and produce written work. They must have valid DBS checks (this is now a statutory requirement of CQC Section 22, any student over the age of 18 years and training/working in a healthcare providing industry must have a valid DBS check). Students must also have Hep B vaccination verification. Employers: Mentors and Witnesses are requested to attend an induction session and the employers will need to comply with the service level agreement document and training practice monitoring forms, all of which can be explained by out course co-ordinator.
