Introduction
Smile Centre Clinics (SCC) is a newly formed UK Limited Company, whose
primary business objective is to establish up to 25 cosmetic dentistry practices
throughout the UK over the next 5 years. With the head office based in
Alderley Edge Cheshire, the company will provide a range of services that will
include: Personalised partial and complete dentures, denture implants,
Veneers, teeth straightening, lip enhancement, dermal fillers, cosmetic
dentistry and non-invasive cosmetic treatments. The emphasis will be on
providing a personalised service aimed at achieving the best results for the
patients.
Each new outlet (3 in year one) will be opened in major conurbation areas that
have been specifically identified as having a requirement for the services
offered. Operated by Cosmetic Dental Technician’s (CDT) and supported by
Dental Hygienist’s (DH) each outlet will be fitted and operated to a standard
that will properly reflect both the professionalism and responsibility of its
highly qualified multi-disciplinary team.
Background
Originally established in 1999 and now a member of The Smile Centre (GB)
Holdings Ltd (SCH) group. The Smile Centres currently operate three cosmetic
dental practises in Prestwich, Manchester and Lichfield.
The running and development of all three practices (which all operate on a
cash positive basis) have provided an excellent ‘blue print’ model to open
similar outlets throughout the country. With this wealth of experience and
knowledge, the current Managing Director of SCH (Mr Tim Roberts) has now
decided to take advantage of the ‘blue print’ model and in conjunction with Mr
Paul Hesketh (Business ‘Angel’ Investor) and Dr Sunjay Jagath (Consultant
Radiologist at Tameside Hospital) formed SCC to establish a chain of cosmetic
dental clinics throughout the country.
On the first of June 2012, SCC entered into an exclusive agreement with SCH,
whereby SCC obtained the rights to advertise and market its products on The
Smile Centre WEB site www.thesmilecentreuk.co.uk interestingly; in 2011 the
site (as it was then) produced 62,499 unique visitors with 303,136 page views
and 3,139 contacts. In January 2012 the website was updated resulting in a
dramatic increase in both traffic and enquiries. To date, unique visitors are up
by 54% and enquiries are up by 28%. In real terms, it’s currently generating
upwards of 30 new clients a week.
Additionally, the unique relationship that now exists between SCH, allows SCC
direct access to unrivalled technical support from highly trained professional
people who have over 12 years’ experience within the cosmetic dentistry
sector.
Market Potential
The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) states that the number of
people seeking cosmetic treatments for their teeth (anything from laser
whitening to a full "smile makeover" involving a full set of veneers) is growing
up by to 40% every year.
In the past decade alone dentistry has become highly commercialised and
selling new products is now a lucrative side-line for many dental surgeries.
According to Mintel, the oral hygiene market in Britain was worth £760m in
2008, nearly a quarter more than we spent in 2003. By 2013 it is estimated
that we will spend £919m on dental health products every year.
The unique concept of TSG’s business model is about being in the right place at
the right time. Never before has cosmetic dentistry as a business sector, been
in a position of such potential growth. With the exclusive agreement now in
place and with the on-going support of SCH, we intend to take full advantage.
Cosmetic Dental Technicians
Cosmetic Dental Technicians are registered Dental Care Professionals (DCP's),
who are trained and qualified to provide a range of denture services direct to
patients that were previously only available through a qualified Dentist. With
many years' experience working as Dental Technicians, CDT's have the
advanced technical and clinical skills needed to carefully design and hand-craft
every denture to the individual requirements of the patient.
You will find CDT's working as part of a multi-disciplinary team within dental
practices, or operating from their own independent denture clinic. Cosmetic
Dental Technicians have to undergo rigorous training and evaluation. Every
Cosmetic Dental Technician listed on dentures.org.uk has the credentials,
qualifications and registration with the General Dental Council that allows
them to work directly with patients.
CDT’s may undertake one or all of the following:





Investigate your dental and medical history in full
Take x-rays and photographic images of your mouth
Distinguish between normal and abnormal effects of aging, especially
relating to tooth loss
Make referrals to other dental professionals where necessary
Advise you on how to take care of your dentures and achieve optimum
oral health
There are currently 227 registered CDT’s in the country, with a further 90
(circa) CDT’s qualifying each year. Predictions suggest that in the next ten
years there will be circa 3,000 CDT’s registered with the GDC.
