THE ASSOCIATE BUSINESS MEMBERS OF THE NEW JERSEY ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BUSINESS OFFICIALS OFFICIAL MEETING MINUTES MINUTES OF THE MEETING TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2010 ATTENDANCE The meeting of the Associate Business Members of the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO) was called to order on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 9:35 AM at the NJASBO Headquarter Offices in Robbinsville, NJ. The following Executive Committee members were present: Latonya Jackson (NJSBAIG), President; Bill Pappalardo (Greyhawk), President Elect; Nancy Riccio (G.R. Murray), Vice President; Christine Messina (All Risk Inc), Membership Chairperson; Ronni Leddy (Ackerson Drapery), Immediate Past President; and Paul Napoli (NORESCO), Secretary. Ten Associate Business Members were present in addition to the Executive Committee (sign-in sheet attached): Ginny Nims, AV Business Communication Systems; Ken Koenig, American Bus & Coach; Fran MacCarrigan, Tozour Energy Systems; Greg Grimaldi, Connor Strong; Ed Meglis, Lincoln Investment; Tara Massey, Network Information Tech; Rob Lavecchia, NJSBAIG; John Kounelias, Commerce; Susan Thames, TTI Environmental; and Ben Marino, Tarpey Group. Representing NJASBO: John Donahue, Executive Director; Dr. Michele D. Roemer, Assistant Executive Director; and Kateryna Bechtel (Egg Harbor Township BOE), President. MINUTES A motion to approve the June 2, 2010 Meeting Minutes was made by Bill Pappalardo and seconded by Ed Meglis. BUDGET REPORT Vice President, Nancy Riccio, commented there have been no expenditures to track and thus the entire $1,500.00 operating budget remains in full. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT John Donahue reported the following: It is going to be a tough year. New cap places restrictions on spending (2%). Strategic plan to be released next Friday. Planning for next year is important to BA’s and John suggested that it’s a good time to approach them. District Budget issues – shared services, consolidation, and no state aid increase. Keypost is changing to a bulletin on-line (no advertising). Anyone interested in writing “professional articles”? Spring Conference: already received approval from DOE. No fee changes to the Spring Conference are anticipated. Per Latonya, a request was made to have ABM’s on the committees. Legislative Summary: Michele Roemer requested a contact list from ABM’s of individuals who could lobby for different issues. Spring Conference Summary: Kateryna Bechtel advised that the conference will be held again at the Borgata on June 1, 2, and 3 (Wednesday - Friday). Kateryna Bechtel spoke about: The current perspective of most Business Administrators being one by which they must evaluate which essential basic services will receive funding from their scarce dollars. The topics that have their mindshare at the moment are consolidation, shared services, and trying to keep activities going/saving programs. Kathy recommended that vendors put together packages to serve several districts. PRESIDENT’S REPORT New President, Latonya Jackson, thanked Ronni Leddy for her 2 years of service. Latonya introduced the officers for 2010-11: Latonya Jackson – President Bill Pappalardo – President Elect Nancy Riccio – Vice President Paul Napoli – Secretary Christine Messina – Membership Committee Chair Latonya presented the 2010-11 Associate Business Members meeting schedule as such: Tuesday, September 14, 2010 Tuesday, November 9, 2010 Tuesday, January 11, 2011 Tuesday, March 8, 2011 Tuesday, May 10, 2011 Following through on her vision for the future which included increasing training seminar opportunities for ABM’s, Latonya detailed plans to provide added value to the Associate Business Members in the form of two future programs to take place after the traditional ABM meetings in Robbinsville on the following two dates: Tuesday, January 11, 2011 Tuesday, March 8, 2011 The first event will be a training opportunity detailing the BA’s calendar year. A day in the life of a BA with a little procurement 101 mixed in. The second date will be more of a networking event in which ABM’s will be able to give a brief elevator speech in order to educate other ABM’s as to what they do for a living so that we could recommend our peers to BA’s should that sort of scenario present itself. A “B2B Subcommittee” was formed consisting of: Tara Massey, Rob Lavecchia, Ben Marino, Christine Messina, Latonya Jackson, and Paul Napoli. A “Conference Subcommittee” was also created in order to provide feedback to the association so that the collective voice of the ABM’s is heard when decisions are being made for this years annual conference at the Borgata. Those individuals making up this subcommittee are Ginny Nims, Alan Walker, Bill Pappalardo, Latonya Jackson, and Paul Napoli. MEMBERSHIP CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT Christine Messina presented (9) companies for provisional membership for approval by NJASBO as follows: AmeriHealth NJ; Asset Control Solutions, Inc.; Concord Engineering;Danzinger & Markhoff; DeltaDental of New Jersey; Doyle Alliance Group; Floria Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader; The OMNI Group; and T.C. Irons Agency. A motion to approve the list was made by Ed Meglis and seconded by Nancy Riccio. COMMITTEE REPORTS No reports given.
