ADMINISTRATIVE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM 2016 FELLOW GUIDELINES & APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS GENERAL INFORMATION ODC Theater is part of a two-building creative campus dedicated to supporting every stage of the artistic lifecycle – conceptualization, creation and performance. This includes ODC’s flagship company – ODC/Dance -, as well as ODC School, in partnership with Rhythm & Motion Dance Workout, all situated in San Francisco’s Mission District. Established in 1976 and nationally recognized as a cultural landmark today, ODC Theater exists to empower and develop innovative artists. It participates in the creation of new works through commissioning, presenting, mentorship and space access; develops informed, engaged and committed audiences; and advocates for the performing arts as an essential component to the economic and cultural development of our community. In addition to an acclaimed presenting program/curation; mentorship for emerging and midcareer professionals; audience engagement and conversation platforms; producing all Creative Campus Performances; and a subsidized rental program, ODC Theater programs include a longitudinal Artist-inResidence Program and is expanding its efforts to include Administrative Fellowships that will support the Resident Artists as well as offer mentorship to budding arts administrators. ADMINISTRATIVE FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION The Administrative Fellowship program was created to address the shortage of administrative capacity for Bay Area artists like the Artists-in-Residence at ODC Theater while simultaneously creating professional development opportunities for dancers and arts administrators looking to build or develop their skill sets. Applicants will be interviewed and matched with a Resident Artist (“Host”) to complete specific projects in marketing, public relations, fundraising, event management, audience development, and/or community outreach while working 10 hours a week over a 10-week period. The program includes an opportunity for dual mentorship both from the Host and ODC administrative staff. In addition to working and meeting with his/her Host on a weekly basis, Fellows will meet with ODC’s Deputy Director for Advancement a minimum of three times during the 10-week period and depending on the nature of the defined project; will be able to liaise with a correlative ODC staff member as an additional resource (i.e. Marketing Campaign Manager, Development Manager, etc…). SCHEDULE The program dates are Monday, January 18 through Friday, April 1, 2016. All Fellows will work ten hours a week for an estimated ten weeks with their individual Hosts. Specific work schedules and expectations will be set by Hosts in concert with the Fellows. Host and Fellow are expected to meet weekly, but the Fellow should also bring a significant amount of self-agency and be able to work independently as well. Meetings with ODC Deputy Director will be calculated as part of the ten-hour work week. COMPENSATION Similar to ODC’s Work Exchange program, each Fellow will receive class credits for hours volunteered/worked. The estimated 100 hours of administrative support over the ten-week period equals 50 classes for the Fellow to accrue. The ratio of hours worked to classes earned is double because it is understood the Fellow will also be developing professional administrative skills from this experience. HOW TO APPLY For the Administrative Fellowship program, ODC Theater seeks not only the best talent, but also the best fit between a Fellow and a Host. We also want to convene a cohort of Fellows who come from diverse backgrounds, who have diverse interests and experiences, and who will complement each other. Therefore, we want to gain an understanding of applicants’ achievements, their interests, goals, and ideas.
