Betty McBryde Brady, 72, of Monticello, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, January 07,
2014, at home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Brady was born in New Albany, Mississippi on January 15, 1941 to Lee E McBryde
and the late Richard O McBryde, Sr. At an early age she and her family moved to
Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from Central High School. After a brief courtship,
she married Tom M. Brady of McMinnville, TN in February 1962 and they started their
marriage in Augusta, Georgia. They moved to Monticello in 1963 when Dr. Brady began
his dentistry practice.
Mrs. Brady taught second grade at Hephzibah School in Augusta and Monticello
Elementary. Some of her students still say today that she was the prettiest woman they
had ever seen.
Mrs. Brady was active in her community where she served as a Jasper County Library
Board member, Courthouse Renovation Committee member, Elections Poll Worker, Red
Cross Blood Drive Volunteer, and Monticello Garden Club. She was known for her
beautiful roses and flower arrangements. She served on the Monticello Housing
Authority Board for 35 years.
She was active during her children’s education at Piedmont Academy. She was a
member of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Horseshow, PTO Officer, Room Mom,
Football Program Chairman, and Team Mom. She served many pre-game meals to
teammates of her children. The teammates could not wait to eat “Miss” Betty’s
cooking.
Mrs. Brady was truly a woman of God and a loyal and faithful servant of Monticello
Presbyterian Church for 50 years. She was an Elder, Presbyterian Women Moderator,
Chairman of the Property Committee, Chairman of the renovation and addition of the
church, Sunday School Teacher, Food Chairman for Vacation Bible School and the annual
Father Daughter Dance, decorated the church each Christmas, and provided
transportation for the nursery workers each Sunday. Behind the scenes, she coordinated
the lawn care and on her own would prune shrubs and pine straw the church. Each year
she bought clothes for needy children for back to school and at Christmas. She also
made the costumes for the Live Nativity. She prepared hundreds of flower
arrangements for all occasions.
Her hobbies were gardening, preparing flower arrangements, playing bridge and
duplicate with friends, and playing tennis with her ALTA Senior Leagues where she
served as Team Captain for 15 years. She enjoyed trips with her tennis friends to play
and watch tennis. She traveled to Wimbledon, the US Open and the Family Circle.
Mimi, as she was known to her grandchildren, traveled throughout Georgia to watch her
grandchildren play ball and tennis, cheer, run track, dance, and perform in plays. With
great pride and joy, she shared the accomplishments of her grandchildren with her
many friends. She loved the days and nights that the grandchildren stayed at her home
and would always make sure she had their favorite meals.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Monticello
Presbyterian Church, 246 E. Washington Street, Monticello, Georgia 31064. Interment
will be held in West View Cemetery, Westview Street, Monticello, Georgia 31064. Rev.
Rindy Trouteaud will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Jordan Funeral Home, Thursday, January 9, from 5:00

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brady McMichael, Mack Brady, Drew
Brady, and Owen Brady, and nephews, Mark McBryde, Eric McBryde, Craig Cooper, and
Ryan Cooper.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the ALTA Tennis Members.
Mrs. Brady will be remembered for her sweet disposition and kindness to others. Her
memory will be forever cherished by her loving husband of 51 years, Tom M. Brady. She
is survived by her 98 year old mother, Lee E. McBryde, of Memphis, TN. Mrs. Brady is
