Jewish Business Students Association Constitution

ARTICLE 1 – CLUB NAME

The name of this organization shall be “Jewish Business Students Association.” The club will be known as “JBSA” in this constitution and for all School-wide correspondence and communication.

ARTICLE 2 – CLUB PURPOSE

The JBSA aims to promote Jewish activities and culture within Columbia Business

School with an aim to form a long-lasting community among Jewish students. The purpose of the JBSA Executive Board (the “Board”) will be to establish and enhance the

Jewish community at Columbia Business School.

ARTICLE 3 – MEMBERSHIP

The requirements for membership are an interest in Jewish affairs and dues paid in full.

Required dues shall be determined on an annual basis by the Board. The Board has the right to set dues for both one year and two years. The privileges of membership include into the JBSA community and participation, as feasible, in JBSA events and activities.

The Membership may be revoked if any member acts in an irresponsible or unethical way during club events and activities, to be decided by the Board.

ARTICLE 4 – EXECUTIVE BOARD

Board Officers will be democratically elected through a vote of the club’s members.

Board members must be members of the JBSA community. Slates will be allowed with at

most two people serving each position. The privileges of holding office shall include the ability to attend all JBSA activities and represent the JBSA on as needed basis at external events and conferences. Appendix 1 shall be updated to reflect the effective offices of the

JBSA.

The grounds for removal of officers are a vote of a simple majority of the Board present at the Removal Meeting (defined below). The policy for removing officers is a written recommendation (including via electronic mail) for the removal of the identified Board member of the scheduling of the Removal Meeting and the holding of a Removal

Meeting. The Removal must include a presentation of the grounds for the removal (the

“Grounds”) and the opportunity for the identified Board member to rebut the Grounds.

Votes for the removal of the Board member must be public and include a majority of the

Board as well as a simple majority of all members present at the Removal Meeting.

Mid-term or unexpected vacancies of elected officer positions shall be filled at the sole discretion and appointment of the President(s) of the JBSA, in consultation with the other

Board members. An officer removed from office due to placement on academic probation may be reinstated to his or her position if: (1) he or she is no longer on academic probation; (2) he or she remained actively involved in the club during said period; and (3) a majority of the board so approves. If a new officer is given the position in his or her absence, such reinstatement would be in the role of a co-officer of the above requirements are met.

ARTICLE 5 – MEETINGS AND PROCEDURES

Meetings will take place at the discretion of the Executive Board. A quorum will be defined as a meeting involving at least three members of the Executive Board. Policy decisions will be made either by the Board or through a member vote. All meetings and policy changes will be announced to the club members via e-mail.

APPENDIX II

Dues for the current school year shall be $25 for one year membership and $35 for two year membership. Dues for January term members shall be $20 for one year membership and $30 for two year membership.
