her first meeting. Bridget reports to Ann Dyson, Centre
Manager.
Minutes of the last meeting: All attendees accepted the
minutes of the meeting on 24 April, there were no matters
arising.
Treasury:
£1229.52 at bank plus a few pounds petty cash.
Ann had circulated information received from Poems In The
Waiting Room. It was agreed that we subscribe at a cost of £25.
Bridget to do.
Projects:
TV/DVD: Carried forward owing to Mike’s absence.
Photo Display: Most pictures have been framed and are at the
Centre. The remainder are being framed. Becki got a good
discount at the frame shop. She suggested an extra frame
saying “Frames purchased by Coasting Together from
Rottingdean Frames & Gallery”. Ann will do laminated titles for
the pictures.
OT Equipment: Peggy and Friends is the name of the charity
that folded leaving £38,000 with the Limbless Association for
dispersement (wheelchairs excluded). Ann will follow up with
Nicky about her equipment requirements. If she has not already
bought then Coasting Together will contribute to a maximum of
£75.
Computer/WiFi: The Trust has a project to install WiFi to enable
patients’ browsing. Mark has suggested free broadband may be
available for 12 months through BT Community Connections
Award. Closing date for applications is 7th September. Ann
will ask the technical department for a date when the Trust’s
open broadband connection is likely to be available and if they
can supply us with an old PC for the waiting room.
Social:
Sailability: The offer is still open
Croquet: The offer of taster sessions was at short notice and it
was raining!
Both items to be carried forward until Pat attends a meeting.
Supper: Carry forward.
Fundraising:
Grant Application: Carry forward until a project is agreed.
Weekly Lottery Draw: No information. David will contact Mike.
Christmas Draw: Dependent on Lottery Draw.
Website: Receiving 10 – 15 hits a day from all over. Ann to
follow up on ‘Ask the Expert’ with the experts. More items for
the Tips section are expected as a result of Ask the Expert.
Mark is finalising an article on travelling for the disabled.
Buddy Scheme: Bridget is now responsible for its admin.
PAMM Aid Leaflet: Mark needs a copy for the website from
Bridget.
Sussex Community NHS Trust Organisation Changes:
Bob Deans is the interim Chief Executive. Andy Painton is on
secondment to another Trust. His job has been split between
Graham Nice, Director of Nursing, and Richard Curtin,
Operations Director. Richard is visiting the Centre next week.
The new Chair of the Trust is Sue Sjuver.
Strategic Business Unit: Ann and Steve Novak met with
Jonathan Reid, Director Finance, to discuss the proposal to
become a strategic business unit providing wheelchair services
from the Centre across the Trust. It was an encouraging
meeting.
Interviewing for the replacement nurse takes place on
Wednesday 20 June; there are 3 or 4 good candidates.
Advertising for the information officer post begins this week.
Ann suggested that someone from the User Group should be
on the interviewing panel. She will follow this up.
Aromatherapy: Should be on the website this week (plus a
disclaimer statement). Mark, Sue.
Bridget will follow up on the hand therapist with the Red Cross.
Clinical Technologist: Chris is keen on the Centre’s providing
a clinical placement.
AOB:
The LA AGM is on 18 November and the User Group
conference in March/April 2013.
Stuart has put Sue’s name forward for the LA medical panel,
she should expect to hear from them.
There was a discussion about inviting Mike Weatherley, MP for
Hove & Portslade, to a user group meeting as he expressed
interest when he visited the Centre and because we believe
that he is on the House of Commons All Party Disability Group
(Edwina subsequently checked his website and this no longer
appears to be the case). Carry forward.
Murrison Fund: details are on their website veterans.prosthetics@nhs.net
Next Meeting:
Tuesday 21 August at 2pm at the Centre.
