Coasting Together Meeting Tuesday 19 June 2012 Attendees: David Walker (Chair) Stuart Holt Ann Dyson Bridget Davison Sue Eckstein Edwina Graham Petty Apologies: Becki Walker, Stella Benson, Dennis Robins, Mark & Barbara Randall Welcome: David welcomed Bridget Davison, Deputy Centre Manager, to her first meeting. Bridget reports to Ann Dyson, Centre Manager. Minutes of the last meeting: All attendees accepted the minutes of the meeting on 24 April, there were no matters arising. Treasury: £1229.52 at bank plus a few pounds petty cash. Ann had circulated information received from Poems In The Waiting Room. It was agreed that we subscribe at a cost of £25. Bridget to do. Projects: TV/DVD: Carried forward owing to Mike’s absence. Photo Display: Most pictures have been framed and are at the Centre. The remainder are being framed. Becki got a good discount at the frame shop. She suggested an extra frame saying “Frames purchased by Coasting Together from Rottingdean Frames & Gallery”. Ann will do laminated titles for the pictures. OT Equipment: Peggy and Friends is the name of the charity that folded leaving £38,000 with the Limbless Association for dispersement (wheelchairs excluded). Ann will follow up with Nicky about her equipment requirements. If she has not already bought then Coasting Together will contribute to a maximum of £75. Computer/WiFi: The Trust has a project to install WiFi to enable patients’ browsing. Mark has suggested free broadband may be available for 12 months through BT Community Connections Award. Closing date for applications is 7th September. Ann will ask the technical department for a date when the Trust’s open broadband connection is likely to be available and if they can supply us with an old PC for the waiting room. Social: Sailability: The offer is still open Croquet: The offer of taster sessions was at short notice and it was raining! Both items to be carried forward until Pat attends a meeting. Supper: Carry forward. Fundraising: Grant Application: Carry forward until a project is agreed. Weekly Lottery Draw: No information. David will contact Mike. Christmas Draw: Dependent on Lottery Draw. Website: Receiving 10 – 15 hits a day from all over. Ann to follow up on ‘Ask the Expert’ with the experts. More items for the Tips section are expected as a result of Ask the Expert. Mark is finalising an article on travelling for the disabled. Buddy Scheme: Bridget is now responsible for its admin. PAMM Aid Leaflet: Mark needs a copy for the website from Bridget. Sussex Community NHS Trust Organisation Changes: Bob Deans is the interim Chief Executive. Andy Painton is on secondment to another Trust. His job has been split between Graham Nice, Director of Nursing, and Richard Curtin, Operations Director. Richard is visiting the Centre next week. The new Chair of the Trust is Sue Sjuver. Strategic Business Unit: Ann and Steve Novak met with Jonathan Reid, Director Finance, to discuss the proposal to become a strategic business unit providing wheelchair services from the Centre across the Trust. It was an encouraging meeting. Interviewing for the replacement nurse takes place on Wednesday 20 June; there are 3 or 4 good candidates. Advertising for the information officer post begins this week. Ann suggested that someone from the User Group should be on the interviewing panel. She will follow this up. Aromatherapy: Should be on the website this week (plus a disclaimer statement). Mark, Sue. Bridget will follow up on the hand therapist with the Red Cross. Clinical Technologist: Chris is keen on the Centre’s providing a clinical placement. AOB: The LA AGM is on 18 November and the User Group conference in March/April 2013. Stuart has put Sue’s name forward for the LA medical panel, she should expect to hear from them. There was a discussion about inviting Mike Weatherley, MP for Hove & Portslade, to a user group meeting as he expressed interest when he visited the Centre and because we believe that he is on the House of Commons All Party Disability Group (Edwina subsequently checked his website and this no longer appears to be the case).
