The theory and methodology of the normative protection of people under conditions of chemical accidents, the experimental background of the xenobiotics standards and their mixtures of chemical accidents. The study of reason-consequence links in the system of environment – xenobiotics – health to prevent ecopathology, the theory and methodology of regional standards of xenobiotics. The study and hygienic evaluation of the toxicity of xenobiotics on the background of unsufficient iodine supply for organizm, the combined effect of iodine deficiency and other environmental factors on children's health. MAIN SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF DEPARTMENT There have been developed: original concepts of cumulative xenobiotics, the combined ef fect and hygienic estimation of their mixtures, the systematic standardization of xenobiotics in different environments for usual and extreme conditions; the criteria and methods of study and evaluation of the toxication, cumulation of xenobiotics and their mixtures, the expressexperimental background of safe levels of xenobiotics activity, the complex express method of background the systematized standards of substances in different environments, methods of study of the skin absaptive toxycity, stability and transformation of chemical substances in the water of reservoirs; 15 national and international documents on hygienic regulation of xenobiotics and their mixtures, including Methodological guidelines MG 1.1.5.-088-02 "Substantiation of hygienic standards of harmful chemicals in different environments in a systematic approach" maximum acceptable concentration (over 100) in different environmental objects, as weel as 20 harmful substances for the conditions of chemical accidents; physical development standards of children of preschool age; experimental model of iodine deficiency for toxicological studies; prevention measures of thyreotoxicity of lead under conditions of iodine deficiency; criteria for the formation of the unsatisfactory adaptation and complex of preventive measures for its improvement in the 6 -7-year-old pupils of boarding schools in the region of iodine deficiency; measures of reduce the risk of autoimmune thyroiditis in iodine deficiency region; measures of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of inhalation poisoning liquidators and population at phosphate accidents. 5 monographs have been published, 3 certificates and one declaration patent have been obtained, over 1000 articles have been published, 6 DSci, 35 PhD and 3 master’s degree theses have been ecomplesht of the founding of chair. THEMES OF SRW LAST DECADE HYGIENIC ASSESSMENT OF XENOBIOTICS TOXICITY (LEAD BY EXAMPLE) AGAINST THE BACKGROUND ON INSUFFICIENT IODINE SUPPLY OF ORGANISM (2003-2007) Scientific adviser – MD, PhD, associate professor B.A. Plastunov Responsible executor – DSci., professor B.M. Каsiyan Abstract Report on the research work: 111 p., 37 figures, 15 tables, 157 bibliographic sources. Object of study – morphofunctional state of the thyroid gland, processes of peroxidation and antioxidant defense in blood and tissues of experimental animals under the lead influence in iodine deficiency modeled by introduction of medicinal thyrostatics mercazolil. Purpose of research – to examine the toxic properties of lead in insufficient iodine supply of organism, to work out the methodological approaches to the prevention study of chemical ecopatology in areas of goiter endemia. Research methods – analytical and theoretical, biological modeling, histological, biochemical. The effects of different doses of lead nitrate in secondary iodine deficiency caused by medical thyrostatics mercazolil were studied in experiment. It was investigated increasing the thyreotoxicity of lead in iodine deficiency, which is accompanied by disturbances in the antioxidant defense system and activation of free radical reactions in blood and tissues. The obtained results of the investigations have shown that traditional prevention of iodine deficiency is insufficiently effective against the background of high lead intake and slowing preventive effect of potassium iodide at low levels of lead exposure. Using of L-arginine to reduce the effects of oxidative stress caused by lead intoxication is perspective. LEAD, THYROID GLAND, IODINE DEFICIENCY, MERCAZOLIL, MODELING, IODOPROPHYLACTIC, L-ARGININE, ANTIOXIDANT DEFENSE According to the results of research the Dissertation for obtaining scholarly degree of candidate of medical sciences was defended (S.T. Kasiyan ABSTRACT Report on the research work: 267 p., 2 figures, 138 tables, 360 bibliographic sources. Object of study – morphofunctional development and adaptation status o f primary school children - pupils of boarding schools and students of higher medical educational institution, morbidity at autoimmune thyroiditis and childhood infections in the region of iodine deficiency. Purpose of work - to examine the health of children and students, especialles of their adaptation to learning and prevalence of diseases under the combined effect of iodine deficiency and other priority of harmful environmental factors in endemic region and to develop a complex of adequate preventive measures on this basis. Research methods - analytical and theoretical, sanitary and hygienical, epidemiological, anthropometric, biochemical, physiological, physiological, mathematical and statistical. Unbalanced irrational food and iodine deficiency have a a leading role in the complex environmental factors of children of primary school age in secondary boarding schools which lead to inhibition of the morphofunctional development and adaptation processes of children. It has been proved the influence of iodine and exposure of the organism by lead on physical health and functional status of the cardiovascular system and the intellectual development of students. It was determined the role of unfavorable environmental factors in the development of autoimmune thyroiditis and risks of its occurrence in iodine deficiency region. Complex preventive measures to improve the adaptation of primary school children with complicated social history and students, reduce the risk of autoimmune thyroiditis among the population in the region of iodine deficiency has been suggested , methodological approach to the analysis of causal relationships between infectious disease ща pediatric population and indicators of pollution was justified. CHILDREN, BOARDING SCHOOLS, MORBIDITY, IODINE DEFICIENCY, LEAD STUDENTS, ADAPTATION, As the results of SRW the theses were defended (O.P. Kassiyan, O.M. Kolinkovskyy, O.M. Marzeev Institute of Hygiene and Medical Ecology AMS of Ukraine, 2012), given to the defence of thesis (M. I. Zavada ), any thesis is done (M.A. Kovaliv), published 84 articles and 63 abstracts, published a monograph, recommendations stamped Ministry of Health of Ukraine, 3 letters of information, received patent.
