2. Telling the main features of the case: Description of engagement and co-creation with the
young, local authorities, local communities, education and/or business community which you
think well exemplifies what has been best in your work in MY GENERATION
Why is this case interesting and important in your context
The case example to be presented is entitled “Each one – One World”, a two-day open event
that was implemented in November 2009 as an “outreach” example. It took place at the
premises of a main historical building at the city centre and it was initiated by ADEP S.A. and
Patras Local Youth Council (one of the partners of our LSG).
Its main context is described just below:
Citizens of Patras by living in a harbor city, they have been used to foreigners being part of
their community for a long time. Patras has always been Greece’s gate to the West and
witnessed that being a port is not just a part of a city’s layout but it is mainly a way of
communicating messages with all over the world. The city’s modernity has emerged from the
coexistence and encounter of differing cultures and mindsets during its long lasting history.
About 22,000 migrants of different countries live in the city and its suburbs. The majority of
them are Albanians (approximately 16,000) and other big groups include Bulgarians,
Romanians. Most of them earn a living, by working in construction works and agricultural
districts near the city. Due to its intercultural character, Patras is a member of the ‘Intercultural
Cities” network operated by the Council of Europe. Through its active involvement emphasis is
put to address to interculturalism not as a threat but as a potential for growth and
development. Many social stakeholders (NGOs, youth organizations, educational institutes, etc.)
have expressed their “opinion of co-creation”.
On the other hand, it is ADEP S.A. that operates the MG project that provided added value to
acting in common targeting youth. It is also true that ADEP S.A. wanted to improve its
operation concerning “outreach”.
Taking all these into account in combination with the enriched networking through the MG
project and its goals targeting youth, it was regarded as an excellent platform to be exploited
for the organization of an open event that covered most of the aspects of the above issue and
involved most of the parts of interest of local community (MG LSG included).
What was the main goal in the case
Our case was to offer an illustrative example of how social powers of different orientation
(business, youngsters, university, officials, migrants, etc) can come together and “discuss”
common problems in creative ways so as to share and apply common solutions. This was the
framework for a successful outreach in practice, to become true. Moreover, in this case we
experienced the maximum potential involvement of youngsters of different backgrounds who
offered their power to search for innovative and alternative solutions.
Who participated and how
The various participants of the event were:
-
NGOs – more than 6 NGOs participated by communicating the events, organizing side
events, offering technical assistance e.t.c
Volunteers – Municipal E- team (team of volunteers) offered useful support during
organization
Business - all materials used in the organization of the events were offered through
sponsorship of 12 businesses
Officials – participate in round tables and open seminar
Children - participated in artistic workshops
University – offered scientific support
Students’ associations
Immigrants’ Associations – they took photos of the city, prepared ethnic dishes etc
Immigrant young artists - cooperate in graffiti
Music groups – played music both days
Citizens
Local Youth Council
Newspapers / TV stations – offered sponsorships and extensive articles
Nobody of the participants was asked to do anything specific. An open invitation was given
to schools, associations, etc and was posted on the walls just indicating thV members were
only providing guidelines during these two days . All participants just placed time , event
and help was offered to everyone willing to express his/her thoughts and feeling about the
social situation targeted
Some indicative actions organized are the following:
-
Video Projections (there were open spaces for any kind of projections)
Dj’s participation (Any youngster could play music foe more that an hour)
-
Music performance (Live Music of youngsters bands)
Dance Festival
Food festival
Team Games
Photos Exhibition (Everyone could expose his/her photo)
Graffiti production ( Walls were “sacrificed” for art)
TV spot production
Children workshops
Workshops with volunteers
Seminars of journalist
what did you learn during the case and from where
The most important lesson was that: some times the involvement of all social stakeholders
in combination with a flexible and open organisation can be very creative and can boost
youngsters outreach.
3.Stories of participants in the case
- A story/interview of a young person who participated in the case (in written form and
possibly also as a “snippet” on video)
- A story/interview of other participant(s) in the case (in written form and possibly also as a

Please, note the following:
We have pictures from the event that can be used. We have no interviews or similar material
of that time. However, we are in the process of identifying two-three young people (putting
emphasis to identify those involved linked with LSG partners, present at the event).
This is still an on-going process….
