Some information about the city : Pécs is the fifth largest city in Hungary with a population of about 180,000, it lies in South Transdanubia, close to the border with Croatia. It has a mild, almost Mediterranean climate and its history goes back over 2,000 years to the Roman times. The downtown of Pécs is a unique mixture of the relics of Early Christianity (part of the World Heritage), the arrival of the Hungarians, the Turkish reign and the achievements of modern architecture and art. Pécs has received the prestigious title ‘The European Capital of Culture’ for the year 2010. Pécs is a university city. It is full of bars, restaurants and cafés; it has an incredibly vivid student life day and night. Please allow me to quote one of our Study Abroad students from the University of Arizona: ‘ I would advise people on coming to Hungary to have a cultural experience like no other and unparalleled by those in the U.S. Hungary has so much to offer and is a unique and enriching country.
