Non-invasive Archaeology Training School Pécs, 4-11 June 2013 Non-invasive Archaeology Training School (NATS) Principles, Methods, Applications 4-11 June 2013, Pécs, Hungary GENERAL INFORMATI ON The school is open t o student and p rofessional app licants an d will take pl ace at Pécs in south-west Hungary. It is org anized b y the Department of Archaeology of th e Janus Pannonius Museum in Pécs within the framework of the ArchaeoLandscapes Europe (ArcLand) project http://www.archaeolandscapes.eu/. The aim of the school i s to give students and profession als a general u nderstand ing of the subjects below: use of non-invasi ve methods of prospection for archaeol ogical heritage research, protection and p romotion; aerial arch aeological reconnaissance, mapping and int erpret ation of vert ical an d oblique ae rial im ages and use of LiDAR data; basic knowled ge and practical skills of GIS ; geophysical field work and interp retation of data. The school will be de livered b y a team of tutors from the Unite d Kingdom, Poland , Ireland , Sloven ia, and Hungary. It will p rovide stu dents with a wide overview on the potent ial and practical aspects of non-in vasive arch aeology . The course wil l include 1.5 to 2 hours of flying experience an d practical trainin g at two archaeologic al sites in the use of v arious geophysical instrum ents . Student p articipants will also have the opport unit y to work with the data they collect ed during the lab sessions on data processing and interpretation . The workshop fee i s 120 EUR. This includes accom modation, 2 meals per da y, local transport to sites, and flyi ng costs for participants . Travel costs to Pécs are th e responsibil ity of the student participants . The number of students is limited to 16; please make sure to registe r early! If possible pl ease bring your (preferably Windows -based) lap top and D SLR camera to th e training school . The teaching language during the course will be Englis h, so a good command of the language will be necessary. Please note that du e to the low part icipation fee there is only very limited suppo rt avail able from ArcLand in the form of student grants. The deadline for applications is 25 April 2013.
