Grading:
Student progress will be measured by appropriate combinations of the following assignments:
 Tests & Quizzes  will account for approximately 70% of grade
o Tests will be announced well in advance and will cover all or part of a unit. Quizzes will
generally be announced 1 or 3 days in advance, but pop quizzes can and will occur.
 Quiz Corrections will be available – see Guidelines handout.
 Retesting will be available for each Unit Test – see Guidelines handout.
 Classwork/Homework  will account for approximately 20% of grade
o Homework will be assigned daily and checked randomly for effort and completeness.
o Late work will be accepted to a certain extent, but all late work will receive a deduction
in points based on the lateness and situation.
 Notebook  will account for the remaining 10% of grade
o Your notebook will be checked periodically throughout each marking period
o You should divide your notebook into 6 sections – see Notebook handout
o If your notebook is not available at the time of the check, you will be able to turn it in
up to 2 days late, but will incur point deductions.
 Extra Credit  Please don’t ask about it!!
o There may be bonus problems on tests and you may have the opportunity to correct a
test to earn extra points.
o The more you ask about extra credit, the less likely I am to give it!!
Absentee and Make-up Work:
 It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to pick up your work. It will be posted on the MISSING
WORK board in the classroom.
o I will not go over the make-up work at the beginning of class. If you have questions
concerning the material, please see me before/after school.
o If you have a prearranged absence such as an extra-curricular activity or
doctor/dentist appointment, you must come in before leaving/after returning to turn in
last night’s assignment and get the notes and homework for the day you are missing.
You will be expected to complete the assignment and turn it in the next day.
o If you are out for an entire day, you will have one day for each day you were absent to
make up missed work.
 If you are absent on Monday, you will pick up your assignment when you return
on Tuesday and it will be due on Wednesday. Any work assigned before you were
absent is due on the day you return.
o If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz and it is the only day you are absent, you
must make up the test or quiz in class on the day you return to school. Exceptions will
