Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Director of the Intensive English Language Center (IELC) manages the Intensive English Program (IEP), the English bridge course series (a-d), the Nevada-California Consortium of Colleges and Universities, (NIC) summer programs (both academic and English as a Second Language), the language testing of all new international students at UNR, and SPEAK testing for the Graduate School and Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. The decisions and the judgments of the director impact the quality of all programs supervised, as well as the financial well being of all programs. Since a large percentage of UNR's international student population begin their studies in the Intensive English Program, the quality of this program affects the university international student population as a whole. In addition, the director is a main contact between UNR and NIC-Japan, a critical link for UNR that is essential to the internationalization of of the university's student population. The Director also makes judgments regarding students' English langauge proficiency and readiness for academic work in English. Incorrect judgments in this area lead to student failure and faculty frustration, impacting the quality of instruction for all students enrolled in these classes. 4. The director must work closely with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS), the Graduate school, Admissions Records, Summer Session, Scheduling Services, and the English department. 6.
