Spectra Physics Nd-YAG Quantaray Laser
Checklist
Start-up:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Check for adequate Nitrogen flow (contact lab manager if gas bottle is empty).
Check power supply water level (contact lab manager if water level is low).
Check optical path and verify proper alignment.
Turn on cooling water supply and return.
Verify that beam shutter is closed.
Verify that all lab personnel present are wearing proper eye protection. Make
sure that the eyewear used matches the laser wavelength output!
7. Turn on laser according to the Spectra Physics Manual.
-Turn key Power switch on=>position 1
-Set LAMP ENERGY dials (OSC & AMP) to zero=>START position
-Set Q-SWITCH dial to LONG PULSE mode
-Set REP RATE dial to FIXED.
-Press LAMP ON button (Lamp INHIBIT indicator light will go off)
-Press ENABLE button (ON indicator light will turn on).
8. Turn up the lamp energy, oscillator rods first.
9. Open beam shutter (use momentary contact position for single shot).
10. For additional energy, turn up amplifier rods.
11. Before Q-switching, allow 15 minutes of warm-up in long pulse. Re-check
the beam path. Use a business card for visible output or the special IR card
for IR output.
12. Double check that all personnel are wearing proper eye protection.
13. Set Q-SWITCH dial to Q-SW for short pulse mode.
Shut-down:
1. If Q-switched, change to LONG PULSE mode!
2. Reduce lamp energy to zero beginning with the amplifier rods followed by
the oscillator rods.
3. Press the LAMP ON button to the off position (INHIBIT indicator will light).
4. Allow a cool-down period of at least 5 minutes (coolant pumps running).
5. Press the STOP button (OFF indicator will light).
6. Turn the key Power switch off=>position 0
7. Turn off cooling water supply and return.
