Performing Arts Administrator.

Steel Pan Lessons are also available. Please see the Steel Pan Tuition Contract 2014/15 for further details.

INSTRUMENTS - must be provided by the student. Instruments may be left in the musical instrument cupboard during the day of tuition, but must be taken home at night. The school cannot provide secure, locked storage and we suggest that you insure your own instruments, as they are not covered by school insurance. Instrument cases must be clearly named on the outside. Labels are available free of charge from the Performing Arts Reception.

INSTRUMENTAL TEACHERS – may be provided by the Buckinghamshire Learning Trust or private teachers and Sir Henry Floyd enters into a contract with them on your behalf.

LESSONS - will be on an individual basis and last for 20 or 30 minutes. There will be 34 lessons over 3 terms (Autumn-13 weeks, Spring–11 weeks, Summer -10 weeks). Students are taken out of their normal lessons for instrumental tuition, but a rota is set up wherever possible to avoid impacting the same lesson every week. Lessons may also take place during breaks and lunchtimes. Please consider this carefully before you request instrumental tuition lessons.

TIMETABLES - are displayed on the notice board in the Performing Arts Centre and are also distributed during registration. It is the responsibility of the student to check this

regularly, particularly before the start of a new term. Students who come by bus to school may not be able to attend early or late lessons. Please indicate this on the forms so that lessons can be arranged at other times where possible.

ATTENDANCE – Students are expected to attend their lessons each week with their instrument and relevant music. The student should inform the teacher or the Performing Arts

Administrator of any planned absences, for example taking an exam, a school trip, study leave or medical appointment. It may be possible to change lesson times if enough notice is given. Un-notified absences will be communicated to parents/carers.

Each half term attendance will be reviewed. If a student misses three or more lessons without good reason they may not be allowed to continue with their lessons unless attendance improves.

PRACTICE – Students are required to practice daily as advised by the teacher. If students fail to practice for an extended period parents will be contacted and in certain instances they may not be allowed to continue with their lessons until the situation improves.

SCHOOL ENSEMBLES – Students are encouraged to participate in the school ensembles.

These take place during lunch times and are advertised in the student bulletins. Students are also encouraged to attend rehearsals and perform in concerts and shows. We feel this is an important part of the students’ musical development. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Forshaw, Subject Leader for Music.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT PURCHASE LOANS – A new scheme has been launched across

England by the Arts Council. For more details on how to get an interest free loan for between

£100.00 - £5,000.00 for the purchase of musical instruments please go to http://www.takeitaway.org.uk

.

WAITING LISTS - Students who miss the deadline will be added to a waiting list or please contact the Performing Arts Administrator for further details.

SUMMER OPTION FOR YEARS 11, 12 AND 13 - Students taking lessons in Years 11-13

only, will have the opportunity to discontinue lessons for the summer term when they are on study leave for exams however we do advise that tuition benefits from continuity throughout the whole year. You will need to indicate this on the form below. We will contact you again in the Spring Term to confirm your intentions.

CEASING TUITION - Once lessons have been booked you have a commitment for the academic year and you will be charged accordingly. If in exceptional circumstances a parent wishes their child to cease tuition they must make their request in writing. Tuition can only cease at the end of the Winter, Spring or Summer terms and a full half term’s notice must be given. Refunds will not be available for students choosing to stop part way through a term.

PAYMENT OF FEES - are to be made using the school’s online payment system and you will be notified when this is available for you to commence making payments.

Please log into your ParentMail2+Pay account to make the appropriate payments on the dates stated on the form and to tick the Parental Consent box to indicate your agreement to the contents of this document.
