Dear Incoming Student, Greetings and Welcome to UVM! We are very excited that you have decided to pursue your undergraduate studies with us in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). Our academic programs are designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and personal attention you need to prepare for a career in today’s increasingly complex and changing world. All students who attend June Orientation will meet with an academic advisor, review curriculum requirements, and select and register for Fall 2011 courses. Faculty, staff advisors and Orientation Leaders will be available to work with you to create a course schedule that meets your academic needs. Before you join us at Orientation, there are several important reminders and resources we’d like to mention: Take the math placement and foreign language placement tests before Orientation! Both these tests are required before enrolling in a math or foreign language class at UVM. If you are an Animal Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science, Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, or Plant Biology major, take the biological science placement test. This test is required before enrolling in a biology class. Log onto the UVM Student Portal at myuvm.uvm.edu to register for Orientation, view housing and meal plans, and receive information specifically for new UVM students. Students with disabilities are strongly encouraged to contact Accommodation, Consultation, Collaboration, & Educational Support Services (ACCESS) at (802) 6567753 or access@uvm.edu before their June Orientation session. Students and families can arrange an appointment to meet with a Specialist while at June Orientation. Remember that June Orientation is mandatory for all incoming first year students. If you are not able to attend June Orientation due to extenuating circumstances, please be sure to contact the Orientation office at (802) 656-4136 or orientation@uvm.edu to notify us that you are unable to attend. CALS is a small college within a larger university and as a result, we hope that you will feel like you are part of the CALS family as you get to know our faculty, staff, and students. For more information about CALS, be sure to visit our website at www.uvm.edu/cals. Warm Regards, Dr. Josie Davis Associate Dean for Academic Programs
