May 1, 2011 Greetings and Welcome to UVM! We are Joan Jordan (Assistant Dean), Joan Rosebush (Director of Student Success) and Marnie Owen (Academic Advisor). Together with our Administrative Assistant, Michelle Mayette, we make up the Office of Student Services in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at UVM. Throughout your time at UVM, we will assist you with advising, registration and more! We are looking forward to welcoming you to the CEMS family at June Orientation. All CEMS students who attend June Orientation will meet our academic advising staff, review curriculum requirements, and select and register for Fall 2011 courses. Faculty, staff advisors and Orientation Leaders will be available to work with you to create a course schedule that meets your academic needs. Before you join us at Orientation, there are several important reminders and resources we’d like to mention: Take the math placement test before Orientation! All students in CEMS take math from the first semester, and this test is required before enrolling in a math class at UVM. If you plan to take French, Spanish or German courses at any level, you are required to take the foreign language placement test. Log onto the UVM Student Portal at myuvm.uvm.edu to register for Orientation, view housing and meal plans, and receive information specifically for new UVM students. Students with disabilities are strongly encouraged to contact Accommodation, Consultation, Collaboration, & Educational Support Services (ACCESS) at (802) 6567753 or access@uvm.edu before their June Orientation session. Students and families can arrange an appointment to meet with a Specialist while at June Orientation. For more information about CEMS, be sure to visit our website at www.cems.uvm.edu. Click on ‘Current Students’, then ‘Curriculum Checksheets’ for specific course information for each of our degree programs. Remember that June Orientation is mandatory for all incoming first year students. If you are not able to attend June Orientation due to extenuating circumstances, please be sure to contact the Orientation office at (802) 656-4136 or orientation@uvm.edu to notify us that you are unable to attend. We look forward to meeting you and your family in June. Sincerely, Joan Jordan, Joan Rosebush & Marnie Owen Student Services, College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences
