Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences serves as a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team to provide vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for undergraduate programs, policies, and curricula. The primary purpose of the role is to facilitate a high-quality, rigorous, and positive experience for undergraduate students with respect to the administrative face of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The two major aspects of this role are: (1) to interact effectively and collaboratively with other groups on campus that deal with undergraduate programs, policies, and curricula; and, (2) to provide oversight to the CLAS Advising Office, including dealing directly with students in cases of serious misconduct or appeals that have risen to a high level. Duties The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs is charged with broad issues of student interaction with the College (outside of the classroom) in terms of: o long-range planning o developing and implementing new programs o facilitating experiential learning and undergraduate research o assessing and revising policy related to undergraduate programs at the University level o interfacing with others at UCD to plan and implement undergraduate programs, including but not limited to: the new SIS system Early Alert Honors program campus-wide retention plan transfer agreements with other institutions State Guaranteed Transfer Agreement CCHE issues probation/suspension policies and the like o working with staff in Student Life on student conduct issues that may affect a student’s academic record o serving regularly on various committees, including: the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Ethics Committee (Chair) Executive Committee Meeting (Dean and Associate Deans) Leadership Team Meeting (all Dean’s office staff) Undergraduate Working Group Denver Bound Scholarship Interviews The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs also provides oversight to the CLAS Advising Office by: (1) supervising the Assistant Dean for advising; (2) working with the Assistant Dean and staff to make changes as needed for improved operation of the Advising Office; (3) providing input to the design and implementation of an assessment plan for CLAS Advising with special emphasis on learning outcomes, and retention and persistence rates; and, (4) assuming primary responsibility for issues or situations which require her/his attention at the request of the Assistant Dean, after the latter’s initial attention.
