Campus Orientation Check-List The following items will be included in a survey for new teachers who attend your campus orientation. This check-list will help you assure that you will cover all the necessary points during your orientation and/or make necessary information available to your BTs. Introduction of key people – principal, school secretary, attendance clerk(s), department chairs, tech support, etc. New teachers are accompanied by his/her mentor, buddy, or stand-in Campus hours of operation Teacher sign-in procedures Campus map Emergency evacuation procedure Mailbox location Teacher restroom policy Bell schedule(s)\ Daily/Class schedule Campus calendar Terms to know Teacher dress code Expectations for technology Access to Help Desk for benefits, payroll, and technology Receipt of the student code of conduct Procedure for requesting an associate teacher (substitute teacher) Expectations for preparing an associate teacher (sub folder) Access to textbooks and other resources * Awareness of relevant district initiatives that may be required for your campus teachers (Literacy by 3, Power Up phase, etc.) * PLEASE NOTE: Your Campus Orientation should be a welcoming event – not training. There is likely nothing less welcoming than someone standing up and going over each of the above items. The most important item on the list is the BT having the accompaniment of his/her mentor or buddy or someone who will stand in during the orientation. Most items on the list can be discussed with the mentor during a campus tour or explained in a new teacher handbook developed by you. Just let the BT’s support know what to cover with the BT. * All new teachers to the district will attend New Teacher Academy Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday following Campus Orientation on August 4. You should advise these teachers to consult their mentor, buddy, or stand-in about choosing the appropriate sessions to attend. You can provide them a copy the NTA Session Choices (TBA access).
