Associate Headteacher TRUST IN LEARNING ACADEMIES BRISTOL LEADERSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION Place of work: Bridge Learning Campus Job Title: Associate Headteacher Job Level/Scale: Deputy Headteacher Level; Leadership Spine (23-29) Responsible to: Chief Executive Trust in Learning and Bridge Learning Campus Job Purpose: To take on the operational day to day leadership of the Secondary School (Phase 3 & 4). To work alongside the Chief Executive to provide strategic direction of the school and the wider campus. To provide professional leadership that promotes the ethos and culture of all through education and continued school improvement. Generic role: • All members of the Wider Leadership Team (WLT) working at Bridge Learning Campus have a collective leadership responsibility for securing the vision of the Campus and the benefits of allthrough and inclusive education • Senior school leaders will actively promote and be engaged in cross school work within the Trust in Learning (TiLA) network of schools • All members of the wider leadership team will also have a responsibility for helping to lead, develop and secure continued improvement for their ‘school’ or phases of education • To play a full part in the life of the Campus community, to support its distinctive vision and ethos and to encourage staff/students to follow this Associate Headteacher (Phase 3 and 4) Responsibility for: Strategic Direction and Future Development To include: • With the Chief Executive, develop and sustain a challenging and clearly articulated vision for the Campus which sets high standards for all students and which is understood, shared and acted upon effectively by all • Seek to ensure that the vision is underpinned by an ethos of mutual respect, positive attitudes and approaches and adherence to core educational, moral and social values • Work with others to translate the vision into agreed objectives, operational plans and demanding goals and targets aimed at maximising every student’s potential and that these plans are appraised • Ensure that planning takes account of the values & experience of the Campus and its wider community whilst taking full advantage of local and national circumstances, both known and anticipated, in order to deliver an exciting learning environment appropriate to 21st Century learners • Ensure that, in its strong support of the pastoral and welfare needs of every student, the School (phases) remains fully committed to safeguarding and works effectively with relevant agencies, internally & externally, to this end Associate Headteacher Leading Learning and Teaching Leading and Managing Staff • Ensure that learning is at the centre of strategic planning and resourcing • Demonstrate and articulate high learning expectations and set demanding learning targets for the school community • Ensure a School/Campus-wide focus on individual student experience and achievement, using data and benchmarks to keep track of progress in every student’s learning and • addressing underperformance at all levels • Promote the continuing development of a collaborative and personalised learning environment and ensure that flexibility in learning serves to meet the individual learning needs of the students • Ensure a culture of challenge and support in which all students: - Enjoy learning - Are encouraged to work to the best of their ability - Develop good learning habits - Become meaningfully engaged in their own - learning and are thereby enabled to become - responsible for their own lifelong learning • Lead the continuing development and implementation of an innovative, flexible and appropriately differentiated curriculum designed to meet the individual needs and abilities of all learners (and liaise with the Associate Head of Phase 1 & 2) • Encourage creativity in teaching and promote the adoption of innovative practices and appropriate technologies to extend and enhance the learning experience of students and the pedagogical skills of staff • Ensure effective mechanisms for monitoring, evaluating and reviewing classroom practice, the quality of teaching and learning and the adoption of the appropriate improvement strategies • Ensure the provision of assessment processes and practices which strongly support individual student learning • Ensure the effective implementation of strategies for sustaining high standards of student behaviour and attendance • Foster an effective partnership with parents and carers and promote their engagement in their children’s learning in order to support and enhance students’ achievements and personal development • Lead the recruitment and deployment of teaching and support staff of the highest quality • Develop and maintain appropriate strategies and procedures for the induction, professional development and performance management of all staff in order to enable them to carry out their roles to the highest standard and achieve the vision and goals of the Campus • Lead, support and develop the phase 3 & 4 Leadership team and, through appropriate delegation of tasks and responsibilities, enable the members of the team to contribute effectively to the management of the School/staff • Foster a strongly collaborative learning culture within the Campus working closely with the Chief Executive.; the Associate Headteacher of Phase 1 & 2 and WLT • Ensure effective planning, allocation, support and evaluation of work delegated to individuals and teams • Develop and maintain a culture of high expectations for him/herself and for others Associate Headteacher Managing the Organisation and its Resources Accountability and External Relations and take appropriate action in the event of unsatisfactory performance • Acknowledge the achievements of individuals and teams and provide feedback that is challenging as well as supportive and encouraging • Regularly review his/her own practice and performance, set high personal targets and take responsibility for their own professional development • Treating people fairly, equitably, with dignity and respect to create and monitor a positive culture and ethos in the Campus • Ensure that organisational structures and processes accurately reflect the Campus values and goals and operate effectively and in line with legal requirements • Carry out the Local Governing Body’s policies concerning racial and sex equality and the rights of people with disabilities in terms of equal opportunity within the Campus • Promote the effective and efficient use of a range of technologies in the management of the School/Phases • Work constructively with the Executive Team and Governing Body, providing it with information, advice and support in order to help it to meet its responsibilities as competently as possible • Contribute to the TiLA network and work collaboratively with other school leaders within the multi academy chain • Ensure that individual staff accountabilities are clearly defined, understood and that all staff recognise that they are accountable for student learning outcomes • Present a coherent and accurate account of the School/Phases performance to a range of audiences • Ensure that parents, carers and students are well informed about the curriculum and the school/Campus’ approach to learning and teaching • Actively engage with other schools in sharing details and experience of best practice and in developing productive relationships with them • Promote curiosity and understanding of different cultures;
