DIRECTOR OF RECRUITMENT AND ADMISSIONS
Are you interested in implementing an innovative approach to college admissions and playing a
major role in the overall direction of an institution? If so, this is your opportunity. Founded in
1877, Philander Smith College a HBCU institution is poised for a renaissance, and now seeks to
raise its profile nationally by strengthening and supporting its PEOPLE: students, faculty, staff,
alumni, and community supporters.
The selected individual must be ethical and an enthusiastic out of the box thinker who
understands the challenges of recruiting students to an urban setting.
Director of Recruitment and Admissions
The director will lead the College’s efforts in the areas of recruitment and admissions, utilizing
best practices and innovative strategies to increase enrollment and compete for academically
talented students. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, with a strong preference for those
with a master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education. Candidates MUST have
at least five years of senior level management progressively responsible experience in
admissions and recruitment. Candidates should also have an understanding of marketing and
market research, and strong skills in planning, organization, customer service, and tremendous
communication skills. Preferred candidates will have a record of active service in professional
associations, a record of producing high end marketing materials, experience with international
student admissions, proficiency with data-based and technological methods for recruitment, and
evidence of innovative thinking and programming.
