Active Schools at Braidbar Primary School This has been a busy term at Braidbar Primary with loads of after school clubs and festivals and events happening. Our Active School Co-ordinator Marie Baxter has been busy this term working in our school and across the other schools to provide more opportunities for our pupils to be more active and give them more opportunities to be involved in sports. Marie is also responsible for a number of other programmes across East Renfrewshire such as ASN programmes, festival programmes and holiday camps. It was her work with the Young Ambassadors programme with Sport Scotland where she was invited to deliver at the National Conference at Hampden back in September which was a major highlight. Marie got to meet lots of sporting stars and inspire the young generation to become ambassadors for sport. Marie even got to meet her sporting hero Sir Chris Hoy at a Sports Awards evening and was over the moon. -Our Active school Co-ordinator Marie Baxter with Sir Chris Hoy. We have many clubs organised for the pupils this term. Mrs Baxter has worked closely with many clubs in the area to come in and provide some sessions or to offer sessions to pupils at their facilities so pupils experience coaching in a club environment. Some of the cluster clubs offered this term were: Tennis at Giffnock Tennis club Pupils from Primary 1, 2 & 3 pupils were offered a block of tennis held on a Thursday and Friday after school 3.30-4.30pm held at Giffnock Tennis club. The club ran for 5 weeks. The sessions were delivered by coaches from the club. The club has proved to be extremely popular and another block was arranged for after the October break. Well done to all the pupils who attended. Judo club at Maccabi Centre in Giffnock Mrs Baxter has organised in partnership with PRO JUDO club an opportunity for pupils across the Woodfarm cluster to attend a JUDO club held at the Maccabi centre. This will start up again after the Xmas break. Skiing at Bellahouston Ski Centre Primary 3 and 4 have had the opportunity to attend ski lessons at Bellahouston Ski centre. Our ski programme has ran for 4 years but only P4-P7s had the opportunity. This term P3s got the chance to learn how to ski. In January 2016 the P4-P7 block will commence and this is already full. Golf at Mearns Castle Golf Academy Pupils from P4/5 have been offered Golf lessons held at Mearns Castle Golf Academy. This has been very well received and pupils have been coached by a PGA professional. Next term we will be offering more Golf lessons so look out for the letters in January 2016. Dance Fusion at Woodfarm High School. This has to be one of the most popular cluster clubs and most successful. Around 40 girls from all the 3 cluster primary schools attend this club at Woodfarm High. Delivered by Fiona Mc Creaddie and students the girls participate in Zumba, Dance and Fitness. Last year the girls performed at the Active Schools Dance Championships and plan to perform again next March 2016! Marie and Mr Gordon work hard to try and produce a great after school programme within our school. We are very fortunate to have teachers and parents in our school who take the clubs. We would like to thank them all for taking the clubs this term all the children greatly appreciate it.
