Classroom Procedures and Expectations
Ms. Pas
2014-2015
Procedures are a part of life. We follow procedures when we go to the movies, eat
at a restaurant, or fly on an airplane. The reason we have procedures is so people can
function in society knowing the proper and appropriate way to do things. Procedures
can make things run more efficiently, help people to be more successful, and also
make things safer. Think of what would happen if people didn’t follow the procedure
at a stop sign or red light! This classroom also has its own set of procedures. These
procedures help to establish our classroom culture. When everyone follows the
procedures, our class becomes safer, calmer, and a better environment in which to
learn. Although you may not remember them at first, please do your best to follow
the procedures below. Let’s all choose to have a great year!
- Ms. Pas
How to Enter the Classroom
Calmly and quietly enter the room and put your materials down at your assigned seat, turn
in any papers to the bin if needed. Immediately get your bell work folder from the crate (if
it hasn’t been placed on your desk) and begin to answer the daily question (bellwork). Please
do not enter the classroom if the door is closed, or if there is not a teacher present.
Starting Class
You start the class- not the teacher! And you need to start right away!
1.
Take out any homework due that day and put it in the bin.
2.
Read the Objectives to see what you will be working on in class that day.
3.
Complete the bell work activity that will be posted on the board.
4.
Study your vocabulary words or read if you have extra time.
What to Do with Your Belongings
Please keep all of your belongings either under your table or in the corner of your desk. It
can be quite treacherous when everyone’s stuff is spilling into the aisles, so please, let’s
keep them clear. Additionally, please keep all four legs of your chair on the GROUND at
all times. It is dangerous to lean back in your chair, and it also ruins the chairs.
If You Are Absent
Each day of the month is given a folder in the “Absent bin”. If you are out, please check
the folder to grab any missing assignments. It is your responsibility, not the teachers, to
collect this work and see that it is handed in. You have two days for every day that you
were out, so please check the bin the day you come back to school.
If You Are Tardy
If you are entering the class after it has started, put your late on Ms. Pas’ desk and
find your seat.
Turning in Papers
Homework will be turned in to the bin as soon as you enter the classroom. All other
assignments and activities will be collected by a designated student and placed in the
bin unless told otherwise. If you are absent or turning in late work, please put it is the
labeled absent or late work (it doesn’t matter what hour you Science)
Sharpening a Pencil
Please sharpen pencils before class begins. If necessary, you may sharpen your pencils
during class but not while the teacher is speaking. Use your own judgment to
determine a good time. Only one student at a time is allowed at the pencil sharpener.
Using the Bathroom
If you need to use the bathroom, please remain in your seat and show the sign
language signal for bathroom. You will not be allowed to go during direct instruction
time (while the teacher is talking) unless it is an emergency. Only one girl and one boy
are allowed out of the classroom at a time to use the bathroom. If you need to use
the bathroom during class, please place a check mark next to your name in the
Student Sign-Out Log Book on the front counter. Please remember to wash your
hands before returning to class.
Using the Classroom Library
There are many books in this classroom that have been purchased by me. Please treat
each and every book with respect. That means handle the books gently, and return it
back to the bookcase when you are finished with it.
When someone enters the room/phone rings
You are to remain working on your assignment during an interruption. If you are
working on a lab or something that requires group work, please whisper or stop until
they have left or I am off the phone. Whisper or no voices please!
How to ask a question/give an answer
If you have a question or want to share something (on topic!) please raise your hand
and wait to be called on. Do not start talking when you raise your hand, wait for me
to call on you. When answering questions, try to use complete sentences using
thinking stems that are posted throughout the room.
Using Classroom Supplies
This classroom is well stocked with supplies to help you complete your classwork. The table
under the white board has been designated as the Supply Center. There, you can find:
white lined paper, scrap paper, colored pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks, and rulers.
Please return all supplies back to their appropriate container when you are doing using
them.
Using the Classroom Sink
You are more than welcome to use the sink to wash their hands. Please just make sure that
the faucet isn’t dripping when you leave, and throw the paper towel in the TRASH, not on
the counter.
When You Want the Teacher’s Attention
If you need to get the teacher’s attention, raise your hand and patiently wait for me to
respond. If you are sick or it is an emergency, you may interrupt me.
How to Set Up a Paper
Most papers that will be handed out this semester will already have a heading on them.
However, if you are handing in an assignment on your own paper, please adhere to the
following guidelines.
Each paper must have four things in the top right-hand corner.
1. Your first and last name
2. The date
3. The class section (1st, 2nd, 3rd hour)
If You Finish Your Work Early
If you finish your work before others are done, there are several things that you may do.
 First, check to make sure that you followed all directions and completed the entire
assignment. Yes, there may be a back side to the paper!
 Review the most recent vocabulary words.
 Organize your Science folder.
 Read 
Classroom Discussions
All students are asked to participate in classroom discussions. I want to hear what you
have to say! However, please make all questions and comments relevant to the current
discussion. If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask it later. Students
should raise their hand to volunteer an answer or ask a question.
shouting out ideas without being called on.
Please refrain from
Lab Behavior
A good portion of the science curriculum involves hands-on lab activities. Appropriate
behavior includes carefully reading and following all instructions, asking questions if you’re
not sure about something and absolutely no joking or fooling around. Certain labs may
involve other precautions, which I will go over with you as needed. ANY inappropriate
behavior will NOT be tolerated for the safety of everyone in the room.
If You Think You Are Going to Throw Up
If possible, tell someone near you that you feel sick. Head directly to the bathroom. Do
not sign out. Do not take a pass. Just GO!
If the Fire Alarm Goes Off
If the fire alarm goes off, stop what you are doing immediately and quietly line up at the
door. This is not the time to talk! I will direct you to the nearest emergency exit. The last
person out of the classroom needs to shut the door.
End of Class Dismissal
The teacher dismisses the class, not the clock. Do not start packing up your materials in
anticipation of the end of class. Class is over when I say: “Have a great day!” Before you
leave, take a look at the floor around you. Pick up any items on the floor (whether they
belong to you or not) and throw them in the trash if necessary. Make sure to push in your
chair before you leave and take ALL of your belongings with you.
