Important Notes for Course Selection
Master of Buddhist Studies 2014-2015
Please read the following notes carefully before completing “Application Form for Course(s) Enrollment (2014-2015)”
and “Application for Change of Course(s) (2014-2015)”.
1.
Please enroll in courses for both 1st semester and 2nd semester (i.e. 8 courses for Full-time students, 3-5 courses for
Part-time students per year).
2.
The enrollment period is from September 1, 2014 to September 22, 2014. Please fill in “Application Form for
Course(s) Enrollment (2014-2015)” to enroll in courses.
3.
The add/drop period in 2nd semester is from January 19, 2015 to February 2, 2015. Please fill in “Application for
Change of Course(s) (2014-2015)” to add/drop course(s). The form will be available online in January, 2015.
4.
For the two foundation courses (i.e. BSTC6079 and BSTC6002), the course enrollment system will NOT register the
courses for you automatically. If you wish to take any foundation courses, please fill in the course enrollment form.
5.
During the course enrollment period and add/drop period, students can attend any classes without registering for any
courses. To finalize course selection, please return the completed form to General Office by the deadline.
6.
For students who selected BSTC6025 Dissertation, please also fill in the “Dissertation Application Form” and
submit it to General Office by February 2, 2015.

Please note that there is prerequisite for BSTC7004 Buddhist psychology II. In order to enroll in this course, students
must fulfill one of the following conditions:

He/she has already completed the course BSTC6055 Buddhist psychology I in previous years; or
Successful registration in BSTC6055 Buddhist psychology I in the 1st semester of the same academic year.
There is quota for BSTC6011 Buddhist mediation (maximum intake: 24). Please refer to below for the enrollment
method:

Criteria:
- To be eligible to enroll in the course, students must attend the first lesson on Sept 11, 2014. Please sign up the
attendance sheet provided in the class.
- As advised by the course teacher, students are expected to attend the full day classes on Nov 23, 2014 and Nov 30,
2014.
- As advised by the course teacher, students are expected to attend at a minimum, 80% of the remaining three-hour
lectures, i.e. 5 out of the 6 three-hour lectures.
Ballot system:
-If the course is over subscribed, the places will be allocated by ballot system (through a random computer ballot
system). Priority will be given to the following groups: Full-time, Part-time Year 2 and final year students.
-If the number of applicants from the priority group exceeds the maximum intake of a course, all the Part-time Year
1 applicants will be placed on a waiting list. There will be a ballot for the priority group on September 15, 2014.
Those in the priority group who do not get a place will also be placed on the waiting list.

-If the number of applicants from the priority group is less than the maximum intake of a course, those applicants
will be allocated a place. The remaining places will be offered to the Part-time Year 1 applicants. If there are more
Part-time year 1 applicants than the quota left, there will be a ballot on September 15, 2014. Those who do not get
a place will be placed on the waiting list.
Result:
-Students will be notified of their results via email on or before 6:30pm, September 16, 2014.
Enrollment:
-Please select the course in the course enrollment form only if you have received confirmation email from our
Centre.
- Please DO NOT enroll in the course if you are placed on the waiting list.
-Students on the waiting list will be notified during the enrollment period in the 1st semester if they are allocated
a place.
10. There is quota for BSTC6034 Mindfulness, stress reduction and psychotherapy (maximum intake: 26). Please refer
to below for the enrollment method:

-Students on the waiting list are strongly advised to attend at least one of the first two classes during the add/drop
period in 2nd semester, so that they will have no problem catching up if they are subsequently offered a place.
11. For courses with examinations, please note that the examination/assessment period for semester 1 is from December
6 to 23, 2014 and May 11 to 30, 2015 for semester 2.
12. Selection of courses should be made as prescribed in the regulations and syllabuses of the degree registered.
Request, if any, for selecting course(s) not in accordance with the relevant regulations and syllabuses should be put
forward in writing, via the Programme Chairman of Master of Buddhist Studies, to the Higher Arts Degrees
Committee and the Faculty Board for approval.
13. Full-time students and final year students must check their course enrolment records via HKU Portal to make sure
they fulfill the graduation requirements according to the “Regulations and Syllabuses” of the programme. Please
check the online enrolment record in October, 2014 and February, 2015.
