Important Notes for Course Selection
Master of Buddhist Studies 2015-2016
Please read the following notes carefully before completing “Application Form for Course(s) Enrollment (2015-2016)” and
“Application for Change of Course(s) (2015-2016)”.
1.
Please enroll in courses for both 1st semester and 2nd semester (i.e. 8 courses for Full-time students, 3-5 courses for
Part-time students per year).
2.
The enrollment period is from September 1, 2015 to September 22, 2015. Please fill in “Application Form for Course(s)
Enrollment (2015-2016)” to enroll in courses.
3.
The add/drop period in 2nd semester is from January 18, 2016 to February 1, 2016. Please fill in “Application for
Change of Course(s) (2015-2016)” to add/drop course(s). The form will be available online in January 2016.
4.
For the two foundation courses (i.e. BSTC6079 and BSTC6002), the course enrollment system will NOT register the
courses for you automatically. If you wish to take any foundation course, please fill in the course enrollment form.
5.
During the course enrollment period and add/drop period, students can attend any classes without registration (except
for BSTC6011 and BSTC6034). To finalize course selection, please return the completed form to General Office by the
above deadline.
6.
For students who will select BSTC6025 Dissertation, please also fill in the “Dissertation Application Form” and submit
it to General Office by February 1, 2016.

Please note that there is prerequisite for BSTC7004 Buddhist psychology II. In order to enroll in this course, students
must fulfill one of the following conditions:

He/she has already completed the course BSTC6055 Buddhist psychology I in previous years; or
Successful registration in BSTC6055 Buddhist psychology I in the 1st semester of the same academic year; or
He/she has sought written approval from the course teacher to enroll in this course (please submit supporting
document to the General Office).
There is quota for BSTC6011 Buddhist mediation (maximum intake: 24). Please refer to the following for the

Criteria:
- To be eligible to enroll in the course, students must attend the first lesson on Sept 10, 2015. Please sign up the
attendance sheet provided in the class.
- As advised by the course teacher, students are
i) expected to attend the full day classes on Nov 29, 2015 and Dec 6, 2015.
ii) expected to attend at a minimum of 80% of the remaining lectures, i.e. 6 out of the 7 three-hour lectures.
Ballot system:
-If the course is over subscribed, the places will be allocated by ballot system (through a random computer ballot
system). Priority will be given to the following groups: Full-time, Part-time Year 2 and final year students.
Result:
-Students will be notified of their results via email on or before 6:30 pm, September 16, 2015. Those who do not get a
place will be put on the waiting list.

Centre.
- Please DO NOT enroll in the course if you are placed on the waiting list.
-Students on the waiting list will be notified during the enrollment period in the 1st semester if place is available
for them.
Remark:
-No sit-in student is allowed for the course after enrollment period.
10. There is quota for BSTC6034 Mindfulness, stress reduction and well-being (maximum intake for MBS students: 28,
maximum intake for MPhil/PhD student: 2). Please refer to the following for the enrollment method:

-The class on Sept 2 will be opened to all students. Starting from Sept 9, 2015 onwards, course will be opened to
officially registered students only. No sit-in student is allowed.
11. For courses with examinations, please note that the examination/assessment period is from December 8 to 23, 2015 for
1st semester and May 9 to 28, 2016 for 2nd semester. The finalized examination timetable will be available in November
2015 and April 2016.
12. Selection of courses should be made as prescribed in the regulations and syllabuses of the programme. Request, if any,
for selecting course(s) not in accordance with the regulations and syllabuses should be put forward in writing, via the
Programme Chairman of Master of Buddhist Studies programme, to the Higher Arts Degrees Committee and the
Faculty Board for approval.
13. Full-time students and final year students must check their course enrollment records via HKU Portal to make sure they
fulfill the graduation requirements according to the regulations and syllabuses of the programme. Please check the
online enrollment record in October 2015 and February 2016.
