Grasmere Primary School Admissions and Appeals Policy September 2014 Grasmere Primary School Admissions and Appeals Policy Applications for school places in year groups other than at Reception Class entry will be treated as midterm admissions. Parents who have moved into the area and have children who are of school age, you should contact the schools directly to complete a mid-term application form (PA1). The Headteacher will be able to offer a place immediately if the school has a vacancy in your child’s year group. Parents can also move your child from one school to another. Parents should talk to their child’s current Headteacher about why you are moving schools. If the School cannot offer a place immediately the child’s name will be placed on the application list, until there are places available. Places will be offered using the criteria below in priority order: 1 Children looked after by a local authority 2 Children whose acute medical or social need justify the allocation of a place at a particular school* 3 Children whose parents can take up or keep a teaching post in one of Hackney’s schools** 4 Children with brothers and sisters*** at the school at the time of the proposed admission 5 Children living nearest to the main entrance of the school as measured in a straight line on a map or using a GIS computerised mapping system Distance as measured in 5 above will be used in any tie-breaker decisions for priority 1, 3 and 4. *The Head of Admissions will make decisions on such cases and will seek, if necessary, advice from the Health Service. These cases will always require supporting professional evidence, which has to demonstrate why the parent should be given a place at a particular school, and it is the responsibility of the parent to produce the evidence. **If you are a teacher applying for a school place only one child will be admitted to each class. Primary school teachers must apply to the school where they teach or to a school within one mile of their place of work. Secondary school teachers must apply to a school within one mile of their place of work. *** Brothers and sisters must live at the same address at the child for whom the application is being made. This includes half brothers and sisters, step brothers and sisters and foster brother and sisters who live at the same address. Parents who have been refused a place at a community school the application list is held and maintained by the school. No consideration is given to the length of time the pupil has been on Applications for school places in year groups other than at Reception Class entry will be treated as midterm admissions.
