JOB SPECIFICATION
DEPARTMENT:
Physical Education
JOB TITLE:
Teacher of Boys’ Physical Education
THE DEPARTMENT
The department aims to be forward thinking and to provide the best possible experiences for
students. Lessons focus on attitudes, skills, knowledge and co-operation to enable enjoyment in
physical activity during and beyond school life. This is achieved by offering a broad, balanced and
relevant curriculum in relation to our facilities, the time allocated for the subject and national
curriculum requirements.
The department is also deeply committed to an extensive extra-curricular programme which
operates at friendly and cup level both locally and nationally. The netball teams have enjoyed
success at National level on several occasions.
In September 2002 the school became a partner of the local Sports College. This has enabled the
department to offer new and exciting opportunities for both staff and students, including specialist
coaching, refereeing qualifications, INSET and more.
The department currently runs the SSCO (School Sport Co-ordinator) programme, with a specialist
teacher linking with the School's feeder primary schools for two days a week. This has enabled
good communication between the schools and ensures that students joining the school in Year 7
are better prepared for the activities covered in Key Stage 3 and beyond.
The school is one of only five in the county to have achieved FA Charter Standard Development
Status, having also been awarded the title of Essex FA Charter Standard School in 2005 and 2006.
The school has also held the regional title of ‘Charter Standard School of the Year’ for two
consecutive years.
