Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Coordinator, Career Development, provides career planning and advising for all Mackay School of Earth Science and Engineering (MSESE) majors beginning with the development of timelines for career success through to job placement or acceptance to a graduate program. The Coordinator will organize and conduct training workshops in job search skills including interviewing, resumes, cover letters, employer research, and salary negotiations for MSESE students. The incumbent serves as the main point of contact for companies seeking interns and permanent employees as part of facilitating the recruitment of MSESE students. The Coordinator maintains relationships with current employers, as well as cultivating and developing relationships with new employers. The Coordinator represents and works with students from the following academic departments: Geography, Geological Sciences and Engineering, and Mining Engineering. The position reports to the Director, MSESE. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: There is a high degree of latitude in independence for developing student career success practices. Recruitment and coordination of internships and career placement involve working closely with the COS Dean’s office to report progress and interactions with industry and alumni. The position has a high degree of independence in career tracking database management with results reported to the MSESE Chairs, Director, and College of Science Dean. The position uses judgment in identifying business and industries to develop relationships. Impact: This position is very visible to students and industry and therefore has a direct impact on the perception of the university, college, and school and its reputation. This position will enhance the quality of placement and the range of opportunities for our graduates. 4.
