Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. As Coordinator of Student Recruitment (CSR) for the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering (MSESE), the individual works with the Director of MSESE and MSESE department chairs and faculty to develop and maintain student recruitment. The main goal is to significantly increase enrollment in MSESE academic programs. The CSR coordinates recruiting with the College of Science (COS) Student Recruitment Advisor. The CSR develops a year-round recruiting program which includes recruiting materials, attendance at college fairs, and presentations in a variety of settings including high schools and community colleges. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 60% - Recruiting Coordinate recruiting activities with the COS Student Recruitment Advisor, UNR Office of Student Services, especially with the Office of Prospective Students (OPS) and Admissions and Records Work with website managers to develop a recruiting portion to the MSESE website Develop a database of prospective student and monitor progress towards attracting them as MSESE students Pay special attention to UNR Presidential Scholar potential recipients that show interest in science and engineering 40% - Recruitment Liaison Attend all meetings and functions of the Academic Affairs/Student Services Council (AA/SSC) Attend all Office of Prospective Students (OPS) sponsored activities including fall previews, college fairs and student orientation programs Attend additional college fairs, especially in areas likely to get prospective students in MSESE programs (e.g. Montana and Wyoming) Develop and maintain working relationships with high school science teachers and counselors to educate them about the value of MSESE degree programs and scholarships Develop and give presentations on MSESE programs to high schools and community colleges and other venues as appropriate Arrange for high school visits and presentations for MSESE volunteer faculty Work with MSESE departments and the UNR Honors Program to develop MSESE Honors courses to attract high quality students 3. The major area of responsibility for this position is designed to increase MSESE enrollment and increase student quality. Increased enrollment is currently MSESE’s and UNR’s highest priority. This position will maximize MSESE’s ability to increase enrollment. An important goal of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is to increase the percentage of Nevada high school students that go on to higher education. This position will help achieve that goal. In order to achieve that goal of increased enrollment, the individual in this position will have the freedom to make decisions and take actions independently for a variety of diverse situations related to recruitment. The individual will collaborate with the MSESE Director and/or the COS Student Recruitment Advisor.
