Selecting Music for a Civil Ceremony: A rough guideline of where we can include music would be as follows. However, you will have greater leeway in the structure of the ceremony, and hence where you would like music to be included. Some celebrants prefer not to include liturgical music, and also may suggest you consider a sand, wine or handfasting ceremony. Have a chat with your celebrant and they will advise you on what structure they like to include! I would generally learn only one new song per wedding! Selecting Music for a Church Ceremony: Do bear in mind that if you are getting married in a church, you should check the final music repertoire with your priest or celebrant, as occasionally non-liturgical music (and on rare occasions, instrumental music) is considered inappropriate. If you have a particular favourite song or piece of music you'd like me to include, I'd be delighted to oblige, once you give me plenty of notice to learn it properly, and as long as it's appropriate to the ceremony. In addition, you may also wish to have some parts of the Mass such as Alleluia, Holy Holy, Acclamation, Our Father etc sung, or Christmas hymns for December weddings. For a church ceremony, music will be required in the following places: - Entrance Lighting of Baptismal Candles - short piece of music, usually instrumental Responsorial Psalm - if you wish this to be sung, be sure you don’t have someone saying a psalm too Gospel Acclamation (Alleluia) – can be either spoken by priest or sung by me Lighting of the Marriage Candle - short piece of music, usually instrumental Offertory Memorial Acclamation (He is Lord/Christ Has Died) – can be either spoken by priest or sung by me The Sign of Peace Communion (2 songs) Signing of the Register (2 songs) Recessional ------------------------ Dublin, Ireland www.stellabass.com
