DIRECTOR OF ACUTE SERVICES REPORT
LOCAL UNSCHEDULED CARE ACTION PLAN (LUCAP) 2
The team is currently working on our draft Local Unscheduled Care Action Plan (LUCAP) 2
which is due for submission in mid May. The draft will be refined in conjunction with
Scottish Government colleagues and a final version will come to the Acute Services
Divisional Committee and Board for sign off. Key developments likely to feature within this
plan include a proposal for an Integrated Transport Hub and also a Project Manager to
tackle patients in delay.
STAFF SURGERIES
A number of Staff Surgeries were arranged to enable Managers / Staff Side
representatives to engage with staff around the Acute Division Staff Governance Action
Plan and there will also be an opportunity to provide feedback from the Staff Survey. The
feedback from these Staff Surgeries was helpful in taking forward our partnership working
and addressing staff concerns.
VISIT TO THE ROYAL FREE LONDON HOSPITAL
The Director of Acute Services and the Chairman of the Board visited the Royal Free
Hospital in London to explore an alternative approach to clinical pathway redesign and the
challenges presented by the management of A&E and urgent care within a London
Teaching Hospital setting. The learning from this visit will inform our redesign work within
NHS Fife.
WI-FI SERVICE FOR FIFE PATIENTS
A new service is being rolled out across Fife which will allow patients and visitors access
to free internet during their visit to hospital. NHS Fife Patient Wi-fi is now available in the
new wing of Victoria Hospital, meaning that patients and visitors can access free internet
whilst they spend time in waiting areas or in their hospital bed. The coming months will see
the next phase of the roll out, with the service being made available to patients in the
remaining areas of Victoria Hospital, along with Lynebank, Queen Margaret, Adamson and
St Andrews Community Hospitals. Patients and visitors have access to a huge number of
websites, as well as information about the hospital and the services available. To ensure
the ease of access for patients, there will be no requirement to register to use the service
although patients will be asked to read and agree to the terms and conditions of use.
