Regular English 9 Score 2 In the essay “is this the answer to drug use” I feel that random drug tests are both good and bad. They can be bad because it can make a kid feel very uncomfortable, and unsafe. Some kids have never had to pee in a cup before so they might think its strange. Or some parents may not approve of what staff members of the school are doing. For the good thing, random drug tests could be good. Im a kid and for what I know nobody on a sports team would want to be randomly drug tested, because if they ralled they would be taken out of the sport for a couple weeks. What kid would want to go through that, and miss our on practice? I know I wouldn’t. So if people knew there were random drug tests kids would possibly stop doing drugs all together. Some parents think its an invasion of privacy. “and some parents view this as blatant invasion of privacy.” Also one parent named WIliam Sciambi doesn’t like that his child has a risk of being tested so he is strongly against it. “If anyone at school tried to give my kids urine tests, Id have to be put in jail because Id go down there and raise hell.” Honestly Im on the fence about this article and the way I feel about random drug tests. Regular English 9 Score 4 There are many students in high schools everywhere doing drugs, and many students that aren’t. Many high schools across the country have started to randomly drug test students. Some think this could help the drug problem in schools. Also, some think it is a violation of privacy and doesn’t effect the students. Random drug tests in school’s is not the answer to drug use. It is not a schools job to monitor students behavior it is there parents. Many parents feel they should not violate there kids like that. In the article William Sciambi found out that his kids school district was considering a testing program. He was offended by it, he says it is his responsibility to monitor his kids behavior. It is parents job to monitor there childrens behavior and schools should not be doing it for them. Drug tests do not effect whether a kid will do drugs or not. The people i know that do drugs would not stop even if they were being drug tested. In the article it says the University of Michigan in 2003, found no evidence that testing lowered abuse rate. Therefore the testing would not effect kids at all but it would be a big expense for schools. So schools should not drug test because it costs to much mony with to little results. Many people think that they should use drug tests in school though. In the article Ginger Kats’ son died of a heroin overdose shortly after graduating high school. Ginger says she wishes more schools would adopt testing. This shows parents may want drug testing in schools because it may help stop there children. Some people do believe they should drug test in schools. Random drug tests are not the answer to drug use. Many parents find it offensive to there monitoring of there kids. Also, it is too great of an expensive to have for what results show. This probably wont stop drug use for people. Either way some schools are adopting the random testing and some are opting not to do them. Regular English 9 Score 6 Should students be tested for drug use at their school? Some people say yes and others no. People have many reasons why. It’s am invasion of privacy or it could save a students life. Students should be tested at their school for drug usage because it could save lives, discourage drug use, and the results are private and confidental. Testing students could help save lives. If you catch the problem before it getting too far, you could prevent a death. Students who test positive for drug and alchaol use must quit all after school activites and can not resume until they receive counseling, devised a treatment plan, and pass a subsequent drug test, Ginger Kats, whose son dies of a heroin overdose, wishes more schools would adopt testing. You could save a life or many lives by drug testing. Random drug testing has discouraged drug use among students. It gives students a reason to resit peer pressure outside of school. The tests are random, so students have no way of knowing if they will be choosen next. Admihivtrators also say that the tests have improved school safety and public health. These testings have discouraged the use of drugs among students. People have different beliefs. Parents of some children believe it is a violation of privacy. William Sciambi believes that by schools doing this they are usurping his responsibility to monitor his childs behavior. The families believe that this is intruding on their families privacy. However, the tests are private and confidental. School officals in New Jersey say they never publicly disclose test results. They are also no included on permanent records. The test do not affect if you will get into a college or get a job. These tests are purely confidental and are never displayed in public. Students should be tested for drug usage at their school because it could save lives, discourage drug use, and the results are private and confidental. The testings could prevent deaths. Colleges or people hiring will never see it. Testing for drugs usage at schools should be allowed.
