SCOPE OF WORK: To provide outgoing transfer advising and career planning, job placement to
prospective and existing students of MCC. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Student
Services.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 Counsels, guides, and advises students in the areas of course and program selection related to career
direction and potential transfer of credits to baccalaureate institutions.
 Develops information and presents workshops on such topics as: academic success, job interviewing
techniques, resume writing, job search skill development, and leadership training;
 Prepares, maintains, and distributes career planning, job placement, and transfer materials and resources
(both print and electronic);
 Works with high schools, business and industry employers, and colleges/universities to assist program
Department Heads with development and maintenance of appropriate career information and planning
avenues, job placement relationships, and college transfer opportunities;
 Coordinates and supervises an on-campus job recruiting program, including job, career, and transfer fairs;
assists with and maintains a presence at open houses, registrations, orientations, and other college events;
 Develops and oversees marketing strategies and resources to identify and bring recruiters and potential
employers to campus.
 Maintains currency in career exploration practices;
 Establishes and implements a career center strategic plan, including short and long range goals, objectives,
policies and operating procedures.
 Assists in the coordination and preparation of the annual graduate placement report of student
employment and college transfer statistics; Conducts systematic qualitative and quantitative data collection
and evaluation of all areas of responsibility;
 Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations;
 Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in Education,
Business, Social Science, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Communications, or a related field. Each additional year of
approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in a postsecondary institution as a career counselor, career
planning and employment services counselor, job coordinator, WorkReady administrator, or job experience
in work force development in an educational setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from a recognized college or university with major
study in Education, Business, Social Science, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Communications, or a related field;
Knowledge of academic/admissions counseling as it relates to a post-secondary institution; Knowledge of
career assessment instruments and their administration; Strong communication skills related to business
practices.
License/Certification: Valid New Hampshire driver’s license or access to transportation.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of counseling principles and techniques.
Considerable knowledge of learning, behavior, and emotional patterns of young adults. Knowledge of
personality, achievement, prognostic, and placement tests and the techniques involved in their use and
interpretation. Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques. Ability to maintain rapport with students, faculty
and staff. Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare written reports. Ability to instruct students,
faculty and staff concerning counseling roles and techniques, leadership roles, and human relations. Must be
willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college
appointing authority.
