Stomp Out Loud Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 West Side Story (Grade 7) Phantom of the Opera (Grade 8) MAJOR TOPICS* Students in Grade 7 and 8 will review and reinforce concepts learned in the following areas: Rhythm Melody Musical Forms Musical Terms (vocabulary) Musical Theater World Music and Instruments Students in Grade 7 will focus specifically on the eras of music and composers throughout history including: Middle Ages-Chant Renaissance-Madrigals Baroque-Bach, Handel, Vivaldi Classical-Mozart, Haydn Romantic-Beethoven Modern- Various 20th Century composers Students in Grade 8 will focus specifically on the evolution of American Popular Music and its Influential Artists including: Spirituals/Blues Jazz Rock n Roll Rap/Hip Hop Careers in Music Film Music *Middle School Music Staff are currently rewriting curriculum so that it aligns with the new National Standards for Music. The topics may change/expand as it is produced. A U in any Specialist class will result in a student not making honor roll and not getting an invitation to Honors Night. GENERAL INFORMATION Students must come to class with a writing utensil and a notebook. (Once notebooks are brought in by the student they will remain in the music room). Folders will be provided. Adjustments may be made to this syllabus to meet student needs.
