Clinic Wellness Technician Job Description Summary Clinic Wellness Technician will assist the Clinic Manager with a variety of duties, including: preand post-surgical care, monitoring anesthesia, administering medication, and doing lab work. This position will require compassion for abused animals in our care and/or assist with humane euthanasia as determined by senior management. Camden County Animal Shelter operates an in-shelter low cost spay/neuter clinic and basic wellness to the public and shelter animals as well as a high volume vaccination and wellness clinic. In addition, a high volume once a month spay/neuter clinic for cats only. Major Responsibilities and Tasks This job description should be taken as a general description of the responsibilities of the position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Assists with spay/neuter and other surgeries, treatment protocols, and follow up treatment. Pre-and post-surgical care, monitoring anesthesia and recovery of patients. Data entry, updating and maintaining surgical logs, CDS and medical logs. Assisting foster parents for general wellness checks of their foster animals. Cleaning and disinfection of work space and recovery areas. Receive, examine and vaccinate animals. Administer medications, conduct health exams and administer first-aid when necessary. Perform humane euthanasia as needed. Maintains and updates medical files with pertinent information on animal intake, health information on animals received and in the shelter. 10. Handles animals and makes determinations regarding their disposition. 11. Performs technical and routine animal care as it relates to shelter animals daily. Qualifications Requirements In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Knowledge in animal health, behavior and well-being to include nutrition needs, resources for information, humane animal handling and restraint techniques, knowledge of common animal diseases, general anesthesia, surgery, and recovery, and skill in performing euthanasia. Ability to identify animal species, breeds, age and sexes. Ability to identify signs of animal illnesses and injuries. Proficient skill in vein puncture, catheterization, vaccine administration, and intubation techniques. Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment. Average animal intake ranges from 10 to 25 stray animals per day. Must meet physical requirements of job, to include standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects and handling dogs as large as 75 lbs. Education and Experience Experience with spay/neuter surgeries, clinic, sheltering, or veterinary practice required. High School or GED required. Vet Tech Certificate in relative field preferred. Scheduling and Availability Schedule is 4 days week, ten hour shifts, some weekends shifts may apply.
