Bladder neck incision-surgical cut into the muscle at
the neck of the bladder.
Bladder Stones
Collection of hard-crystallised mineral salts in the
bladder.
BPH
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia- non-cancerous
prostatic tissue growth causing an enlarged prostate.
Circumcision
Surgical removal of the foreskin.
Cluttons
Solid metal urethral dilators of different sizes used
to stretch the urethra. Also called bougies or sounds.
Cystoscopy
Examination of the inside of the bladder via the
urethra using a fine telescope called a cystoscope.
Cysto-Diathermy
Burning away bladder tissue using a high frequency
electric current.
Cystectomy
Surgical removal of the bladder.

Painless collection of fluid round a testicle.
Hydronephrosis
Ballooning of the collecting system of the kidney
with urine as a result of obstruction at any point

enlargement, kidney stones, or malignancy. If not
treated will result in renal failure and permanent
loss of kidney function.

Surgical widening of the urethra at the end of the
penis.

A tube inserted into the kidney through an incision
in the skin to drain urine out of the kidney. Used
when there is an obstruction in the ureter, bladder,

Surgical removal of a stone from the kidney.
Nephroureterectomy
Surgical removal of the kidney and ureter.
Nesbits Procedure
Surgical straightening of the penis by removal of
scar tissue.
Orchidectomy
Orchidopexy
Surgical removal of testes.
Surgical procedure to move and secure the undescended testicle into its correct position in the
scrotum.
Peyronie’s Disease
Disorder of the penis caused by scar tissue that
prevents the penis from straightening during an
erection.
Prostatectomy
Surgical removal of prostate tissue.
P.S.A
Prostate Specific Antigen. A blood test used in
diagnosing prostate cancer.
Pyelonephritis
Inflammation of the kidney usually caused by
bacterial infection spreading from the bladder.
Pyeloplasty
Surgical reconstruction of the ureter at its insertion
into the kidney.
P.U.J
Pelvi-ureteric junction. This is the point where the
ureter joins onto the pelvis of the kidney.

Routine ward test of a sample of urine.
Renal Calculi
Stone composed of mineral salts in the renal tract
originating from the kidney.
Renal Colic
Severe spasmodic pain in the loin is caused by spasm
of the ureter trying to force an obstruction i.e. a
renal stone downward from the kidney.

Inability to pass urine.
