The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) will support elementary and middle school (K-8) teachers in studying the big ideas of geometry aligned to the Wisconsin Assessment Framework. Summer Institute 2008 Dates: June 30–July 2 and July 7–11, 2008 Time: 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Location: MPS School Support Technology Center School Year 2008-09 14 Project Sessions Tuesdays 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 pm Goals Develop content knowledge of geometry aligned with the van Hiele Model of Geometric Thought Learn teaching and formative assessment strategies to impact classroom practice in geometry Collaborate as a school-based math team to examine and analyze student work samples Expectations Participate in UWM courses, attend project sessions, and complete assigned projects. Work as a team with a collaborative partner at your school to build a learning community for geometry. Benefits Gain a deeper understanding of students’ development of geometric thinking and reasoning. Develop skills in using classroom-based assessments (CABS) to improve student achievement. Earn 5 free undergraduate or graduate credits (2 credits in summer, 3 credits during the school year).
