POSTION ANNOUNCMENT Division of Student Affairs Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center (LGBTRC) Assistant Director of the LGBT Resource Center Student Services Specialist (Associate, No Prefix or Senior) - #1019 UWM is a doctoral/research university and Wisconsin’s premier public urban institution. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center has an opening for a full-time position that will be responsible for coordinating student outreach, advising students and developing events as well as programs for the LGBT Resource Center. Duties include: assessing student needs and developing programs and services regarding sexual orientation and gender identity; making recommendations on policies and procedures; assisting with grant writing and securing programming funds; advising students; monitoring and evaluating the LGBT Resource Center social media usage; identifying opportunities for innovation; facilitating LGBT+ trainings addressing campus climate; advocating on behalf of students; providing students with personal support as well as information and referral services; and promoting the LGBT+ related events and activities to all campus units and the community. Minimum Qualifications: A successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree by September 1, 2014 and a minimum of 3 years (paid professional or volunteer) experience working with young adults around sexual orientation and gender identity topics in varied racial, ethnic and cultural contexts. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in one of the following areas is preferred: student personnel administration, social work, sociology, educational or counseling psychology, women’s studies, public health, social justice, LGBT studies, or other field related to job responsibilities listed in position announcement. Experience coordinating workshops and presentations dealing with topics of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression and related “isms”. Experience helping students organize around campus climate, social justice, diversity, and leadership. Experience in grant writing for LGBT+ communities as well as grant reporting. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working with confidential information and maintaining professionalism. Ability to handle multiple tasks in an active and diverse work environment. Must have all basic office and computer software skills. Application Procedure: This is a full-time, 12-month, renewable fixed term academic staff appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience within the UWM academic staff salary structure. Minimum salary range for Associate is $27,734, No Prefix $31,784 and Senior level $36,426. Consideration of title assignment depends on multiple factors with the level of experience considered first.
