Minutes of inclusion grp 27th February 2012 Agenda 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Feedback from DASP SENCOs Review Action Plan Funding Future activities AOB 1. Feedback from DASP SENCOs Approx 11/18 schools returned forms Anecdotal evidence of pupils who are discharged from community sp & l at their threshold but still have evident needs for which there is little specialist support for. Evidence the screen can help identify pupils previously not considered and that this is small in number but across most schools; estimate is that 1 in 75 pupils newly identified There are some pupils whose sp & l needs are still undiagnosed at middle age range but it is not clear whether this is because need has become more apparent or because there are early warning signs but we don't know what they are Behaviour- some evidence of pupils with BESD & sp & l but not getting specific intervention for sp &l Interventions seem focused at first school and may help pupils to 3c but do they shoot below radar then? Form improvements: gender, thresholds for screening, don't record the ones who are sorted for interventions or on track with their attainment, There are pupils who have similar primary SEN but different sp & l scores- do SENCOS look for this and know how to respond? Need to be aware of sibling patterns What is the role of EAL Actions 1. Use the screen post sats/ end of year for transfer annually on those behind national expectations 2. Feedback to SENCOS about using the form, observations. 24th April 3pm at THS 3. Sue brazier to annotate observations with good will advice 4. Is there a screen for receptive language 2. Review Action Plan Sue brazier has delivered training in all schools except those in the Dorchester Middle school mini-pyramid. It is a concern that time may be running out but Ron will raise this with heads at our next meeting. 3. Funding All applications for half day supply to Ron ASAP 4. Future activities Is there scope for DASP wide training focused in yr1 for TAs on reading recovery- perhaps using FFT modeL. This would build in training for speech and language and extend it to reading recovery using some examples of good practice. 5. Aob Date of next meeting is ..... Monday 14th may 11am at Ossies
